Many years ago I bought some moth balls because I heard if you put them in the garden it would keep the cats away. The cats dug up the moth balls and peed on them. I hated the smell when I was a kid and would never use them with my clothing.

For generations, it has been well known that if you have a rural house, it's a good idea to toss a few mothballs into the crawl space to keep 'critters' from setting up housekeeping under your house.

Anything that chases away skunks and snakes CAN'T be good for ya.

For years I had a skunk hibernating under my porch steps every winter. He was a very polite neighbor.

we didn't throw moth balls in the crawl space back home because they made us all sick. =p but we had dogs that kept the critters at bay.
this current house was filled to the brim with bloody moth balls, it took forever just to get them all out and air the place out -- had to wait for mild days to open all the windows, otherwise it was too cold.

yeeeaah keep the moth balls as far away from me as possible. =p
