Saudi Arabia is very westernised in some ways but people seem to make the mistake of thinking the laws are similar because of that. They don't actually think of how different the law is or what that could mean. If people think it's ok to scrutinise someone sex life and make it the subject of law you have to ask yourself on who's say are they coming under scrutiny in the first place? A lot of these cases have no more evidence than a couple of eyewitnesses reporting someone. How do they know for sure you had sex outside of marriage, are there hidden cameras? The reality is they don't know (and don't need to know) it is just guilt by association.

You should always respect the laws of the land you are in but that might not always be enough and people should think about such implications (how such cases are prosecuted and what little evidence is required). Yes I'd easily stop short of calling such places moderate, we can agree on the odd occasions.

Ron, don't you understand that everything Mubarek has done in the last 30 years actually happened since Obama became President?

FL, and where did I say that? This has been going on for THIRTY YEARS in case you hadn't noticed.

I am thankful that we can find agreement at least on occasion, to me its like a rare wonderful gem.

On Yahoo's front page there is a pic of the protestors holding up their shoes!
That's bad, when they take their shoes off the shit is going to hit the fan!
Maybe they'll storm the palace and lynch that no good fucker Mubarak who stole our money.
It'd be nice to have coffee tommorow and see a picture of him strung up from a tree outside the palace.

..we could ask Israel.

Do you think for a second the advice you will receive will be 'objective'? Or is it more likely to be self-interested?

It is in everyone's interest that the Israelis keep their mouths very firmly shut until this issue in Egypt plays itself out.

Definitely the dumbest option available this side of bombing Cairo.

I dont know that he stole it, if we gave it to him. Honestly, if some fool was stuffing great big wads of cash in your pockets how hard would you work at fighting him off?

I dont know how good this is or isnt, there isnt anyone alive who really does know, in my opinion.

The missionary couple from our church is finally home safely.   There has been alot of prayer and commentary about this.  However I missed those services.    My neighbor says she can get the CD.   I am most curious.   The couple describes in detail everything they experienced prior to being able to come home.

The few things- ...well the burning of the police station- and muni buildings in Alexandria we knew about a week before I seen it on the net.  Losing the water supply- I had not seen reported.

Egypt has some significance somehow to the end times- says my neighbor- she thinks is imminent- yet- she is still doing her 1040 taxes...if Revelations is here- then why bother?

IMO  we are good for a few years...  not imminent.    She responds that- it will come when not expected.

Missionaries in Egypt, may I ask, what the fuck they were doing there in their capacity as missionaries ?

The couple from our church had been there a few times.  The govt does not sanction it.   Somehow it is connected to the University.  The goal being to spread Christianity.

You live in an Islamic society now? When did you move to Iran?

Thats so far from the truth in my experience, do you think all Christians adhere to the words in the Bible ?

Maybe I am lucky having spent most of my life in a cosmopolitan society but I have encountered very few militant Muslims. Most just want to get on wiith life, just the same as we do. I am wondering if you have ever sat and had a conversation with any Muslims. Somehow I doubt it.

Are you going to keep making crap up, or answer my question ? London has always had a high population of foreigners, going back some 2,000 years. I was born and raised there living in a mixed society, the majority of Muslims I have met want the same things from life we do. Your pathetic attempt at a reply shows you have no intention of debate, just mudslinging.

Right Sanity. London has always been about empire and the east india company - spreading maritime law the globe over.

Are they aware how missionary work is regarded by the locals?

The money we sent to Egypt was not "stolen." Our government knew exactly what was happening to it, and who it was that was happening it. As far as they were concerned, we were getting exactly what we were paying for - a powerful, relatively stable, secular Islamic nation that was pro-American and on reasonably amicable terms with Israel. I'm not defending the reasoning behind it, but I am saying that was what we were buying all those years, and our government was more than happy to mail off the check every January 1st. Whose bank account it wound up in, they couldn't have cared less.

It is all in Gods hands.  They are home safely now.  They head out again next month-  but this time in the US.

I understand it was locals that helped them stay safe in their plight to return home.

It was a trick. They were probably trying to smuggle them back to their kitchens so they could kill them and eat them.

Not really.   The way it sounded-  it was like a war zone.   They had seen protests before but said "this time it is different".

Panda, you bolstered my point. That's exactly why we need to end all foreign aid.
Exactly how much was Mubarak's salary as president for life that he could amass $50-$70 Billion?
And how incompetant are and were the people in our govt to let this knowingly go on?
If you or I worked for a company and knowingly let something similar happen we'd be fired and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Boy, the crowds in Cairo are being whipped up into a frenzy and CNN says that their growing as the morning proceeds.
Someone should write a book about what "not" to do in such a situation. The whole Obama administration gets a big fat "F".
I guess noone told Obama that he shouldn't be making "public" disparaging remarks in times like these.
I'm getting visions of helocopters crashing in the desert.

Come onnnnn,.....doesn't anyone in that crowd have an RPG hidden under their robes?

Countries in the Muslim bloc take various attitudes towards Western missionaries seeking conversions. That can range from tolerating it to severely penalising it. That is their right, whether we like it or not. It is not our right to disregard the local customs and law as we please. So your question is irrelevant.

The only thing that is relevant is how the locals may feel about missionary work. IF they tolerate it - that's fine. If they don't it's not our right to impose our views and values upon them. They should not be expected to acquiesce to our views any more than we would acquiesce to their views if the positions were reversed.

It is called respect. It works best when it is mutual.

Futher proof that 12/21/2012 is closing fast....or is it 12/23/2012.......even the USofA is only halfway through the time period of the greatest society ever on earth (roman empire). All things change, all things move, all things do not stay the same. Someday the americas will revolt the current status quo, it has always been, it always will be.
