January Yup it is, but I've been manic depressive, bi polar and ADHD my entire childhood and adult life, the exercise did trigger me feeling wound up and hyper then I got stressed and anxious over something an then that was the tipping point. and I couldn't relax and my poor body hurts so much an i was jus so tired, but my brain just wouldn't stop. finally I did fall asleep but my sinuses dripping down my throat made me start gagging an coughing an woke me up.

Fight or flight adrenalin rushes are caused by the manic highs which are all a part of bipolar.

You need to find a way of dealing with those situations that make you anxious.

You got stuck in fight or flight and couldn't rest or relax. That is actually different from "Manic".

You need to talk to your therapist about her coaching you on specific techniques to deal with those situations.

There have been some good suggestions, but I agree that if you're not taking regular meds for your bipolar, then you definitely need to be. I'm sure having ADHD adds a lot of stress to go along with being in a manic state but the right combination of meds can make a world of difference.

I know a lot of people preach against meds and doing things all natural, and that's all well and good but when you're in a manic state and have been up 4 or 5 days in a row or been on a shopping frenzy, or hundreds of other impulsive things a person does when they're manic....being on meds to level you out suddenly becomes a good thing.

Bipolar depression is a progressive illness and without proper treatment the symptoms will get worse. Like someone else said, it's nothing to mess around with. ..see your doctor.

A glass of milk and a hot shower may help.

Actually Bi polar Depression can be managed effectively with out medication and has been proven to do as such.

If shes been diagnosed for most of her life and been under the care of professional doctors who are trained in knowing what their patient needs.

Perhaps her doctor has decided that the prescription for her ADHD Is enough to control her Bi polar as well...

I cant take medication for my Bipolar, Medicine metabolizes too fast in my system and the only way to use the medication effectively is to give me doses that will shut down my liver and kidneys with in a few years.

However Ive found that when Im manic a shot or two of alcohol, and when Im depressed a jar of applesauce knocks me back into transition and I stay happy. When ever I start to feel Im going one way or the Other I adjust, I end up having about 4 alcoholic beverages a month which does WAY less damage then 2000 mgs of Lithium.

I manage my Swings My ups my Downs and my in-betweens with no issue at all in fact since Ive gotten off of medication and on to a steady diet of red meat once a week, Veggies and Fruit, and moderate exercise. I haven't gone into a manic state in almost a year. When I would normally cycle 4 to 5 times a year.

There are so many other choices besides lithium these days: my sister-in-law has done fabulously well: first she was on lamictal, abilify and an antidepressant, and now it is just the abilify and an antidepressant.
Some of the anti-convulsants have pretty high dosage possibilities, so it would be possible to take a high dose and break it down into multiple doses several times a day.

Having said that, I am glad you have found a system that works for you.

Lithium was a last resort after trying about 50 different combinations involving Lithium Seriqoul Abilify Geodine Lamictal Welbutrin, Prozac, Zoloft.... and a few others that made me very ill. , the problem remains the same the combo works for about 3 to 4 weeks then needs increased and by three months the increases are at toxic levels.

It isnt just Mood stabilizers its any drug they put me on. When Ive had surgery in the past Ive actually woken up during. Having my wisdom teeth removed and being awake for half of it... Isnt fun :(
