I reality, I did not mean relationship issue. What I meant was that these people are part of the corrupt establishment: White Shoe boys/(girls) as commentator G. Celente calls them. Their main credentials are being part of the system-trustworthy selected group. Otherwise, the average Joe from the street would do better as a president.

Fellow, how true!
Remember back in 1996 when they figured that it was "Robert Dole's *turn?*
It's getting silly, just like voting for a class president in high school on the basis of popularity.
I don't want a "president" anymore, I want a good *Manager* in the white house who know's how to *manage* things!
And I want to see him or her on the t.v. rarely if ever!
And if a candidate is a "lawyer" I'm just not interested in them. There's far too many of them in our govt mucking up things!

Yeah we sure as hell wouldn't want anyone with legal experience making laws.

You have to excuse me now though, I have a leaking faucet.  I have to call my accountant to see if he can come over and fix it.

The president does not write laws. This is what the staff and legal aides are for. Electing Clinton would with very high certainty move America closer to the collapse. The structure of the people allowed to loot big money will change a little. Clintons are close to China and Korea lobby (no problem passing Korea free trade agreement), show business, high tech industries. Banking industry, of course, is darling for the Democrats. Republican establishment president would feed favorably energy sector, military and so on.

servantforuse -> RE: Women rulers (2/12/2011 6:16:13 PM)

It could happen. Sarah Palin as President and Michele Bachmann as the VP..

Come on!

Let's think about what government is all about.

And let's think about who has the expertise in that area.

Politics should not be a profession. You should earn your own money. If after that, you want to help the greater good, run for office. Use your experiences as a successful business person to help inform your input on laws to be enacted, etc.

FullCircle -> RE: Women rulers (2/14/2011 9:02:04 AM)

I agree in part but in practice you need people from all walks of life not just those with business success. Therefore to an extent it has to be a paid profession in order to enable those who want to represent their community to stand and afford to live at the same time. I think this is one of the major issues with modern politics; that people assume business success or wider career success equates to good community leadership. If someone is the type of boss that can get an employee to work for nothing on the weekend for the good of the company then I'd agree that good business leadership and good community leadership are the same thing. When you are in the business environment people are motivated by a rather limited range of things in comparison to the things that motivate them outside that context.

[Obama would not have asked her to be Sec. of State just because she is a former First Lady.

Obviously not. It was a "keep your friends close and your enemies closer" appointment.

So attorneys do not earn their own money?

I'm not aware of any law students who come out of school with a specialization in politics.

I guess I should have said working world rather than business. I wondered if I should make that clear when I first posted that. Basically I meant people shouldn't get wealthy/make a living from the public trough of politics.

I did not say that. I find it hard to believe that what I wrote was so confusing.

I'm sure that was an added bonus to asking her to be SOS.
