When I had AVG 2011 on this thing it kept going offline. Sometimes after typoing a post it would pop up with a window that said "Page is..." you know and the buttons to work offline or try again. Since try again seemed a viable option I hit it and it worked.

I didn't get rid of AVG for that though, it just slowed the web down too much, and opening the browser. I sometimes open a bunch of browser windows. If I could turn off a couple of options I might be able to live with it but screw it. That's not the point. My sinister's PC can't run bareback, and it's got the disconnect problem. This can be a problem with some games.

Now I'm thinking that maybe AVG wants to keep the PC safe, by isolation ? This is not peculiar to the old IE, it also does it on fresh new Firefox. I'm thinking there must be some sort of timeout issue or something. In each case the problem came on via the installation of AVG, and in this box, uninstallation cured it forthwith.

Now it's her job to figure out how to exclude this and that, allow this and that to do whatever. She is not going to ride bareback through the inter-jungle. All of that is one thing, this disconnection problem is another. Does anyone know the program and maybe could tell me where some more settings are ? In her case, Id like to solve this. Whatever else she does is her problem.

The only other thing she needs is an email scanner. Unfortunately we are pretty much using web based mail right now. I'd like to change that. I got Outlook, there's another one, Pandora or something. I don't particularly like it web based, I think it's kinda dangerous. She is pretty sure her virii came from emails. Is it worth it to figure out those SMTP settings and use something like Outlook or whtever ? (in respect to virus threats)

This because she tried to open some old emails on a Mac and it refused. Said something about a virus she said. It may not be the sites where she goes, but some stupid ass joke emails !

At any rate, something is not right if it says it's not connected to the internet. If that particular issue gets solved, well roses will spring up all over the place and the fountain of youth will be found and.,........WHO ARE YOU GUYS (in the white coats) WHAT'S THAT A STRAITJACKET ? LET ME SEE THAT.

Totally remove the AVG, remove IE and Firefox.

Re-add IE or Firefox (or both), then the AVG--which will ask you to approve each program individually ONCE only (hopefully) and be sure to deny all others once and for all aslo, all should run smoothly after  Keep your basic windows pop-up blocker on after doing so.

A good mallware/spyware program (one only) would help also. Delete the one you have and re-arm yourself with a new one also.

*Also it helps to know your back door into opening the net without IE or other www programs loaded: R click on start menu to 'open', type the www addy you want into the browser bar.

I don't mean to sound stupid here, but maybe I am. If I remove IE and Firefox, how would I download them again ? Is there a way to get on the internet without a browser or would I have to reload this from a stick or a CD(R) or whatever ?

You would remove IE first then reinstall. Then remove Firefox and reinstall. In my opinion, I wouldn't reinstall IE, it still has security issues and the program itself is very heavy. I use Opera and Google Chrome.

sorry, I thought of that after the fact and gave instructions above LOL.

You read my mind, or I read yours. lol.  Wasn't quite sure of how much comp. savvy you have to get onto the web without a downloaded browser, but your computer has one built in. (as above)

Also, once you remove IE or other (from programs) it is gone and reloading a new IE from the microsoft.com website will give you a fresh one that is void of any security problems.

No I mean that IE itself has security issues.

IE itself has little security problems before you log into sites that cause em. If you continually have a issues with IE, there are a choice of others to download.

Remove it (totally, every trace), remove your antivirus, re-add the browsers and anti-virus one at a time w

are you currently on a wireless network?

renew your IP, reboot, see if you can do these above tasks, if not, you will have to do a system restore either before or after reboot-depending on your system's health after reboot. Let me know.

if you want to keep your current IE because you haven't had time or energy to save important bookmarks:  http://www.internetexplorerfixer.org/fix.php

No, but I have seen 12007 on a wired network, in fact at work. I might have to just do a reinstall of everything there and make people keep their MF mitts off of it. The main PC was connected as a gateway, and when it got 12007 it knocked everything off line. If I fix it, it'll be hooked up right.

Either I am called upon to fix it or not. Right now I am not.

How come this shit happens to other people. It almost shouldn't be my problem because my shit runs just fine. I just avoid certain things. But this is my sister so I guess I am stuck with it.
