Misrepresenting their purpose in coming to the USA is illegal, I think.   See 8 USC 1182(a)(6)(C).

You have to prove they did. After the fact, whats the point.

Ummm... the barn door has long since closed on that one. It's called 'duty to report'. Don't believe me? Show up at an ER with a gunshot wound and see how fast you are talking to a nice police officer about how it happened, like it or not. Show up looking like a victim of domestic violence (esp if you are an ER frequent flyer), and you are likely to be talking with the same nice officer unless you have a really good story. Show up with a minor who shows signs of possible abuse or neglect, and see how fast you are explaining things to the nice people from CPS. These are just some examples of things physicians are already required to report to the proper authorities. Do you think such incidents should not be reported because it means that health care professionals are doing the police's job?

These all contain signs of violence and abuse. Someone showing up with a cut to his hand, clean, stich, and out the door before the administration people ever show up.

They will likely not answer questions about contact with others honestly and there is no way to track them. Even worse, in the case of false ID, the required report will be on someone likely not even in the same state that does not have the disease.

So lets make it worse by telling them they will be reported for being an illegal. Then they wont show up at all. Problem solved... until they start carting dead bodies out of apartment buildings.

And, honestly, what Dr or Hospital wants to deal with the lawsuits over all this.

If the law says they should treat them, then yes they should treat them.

Not what I am saying. But, why stop with simple illegals. If a tourist has a heart attack then why should our hospitals have to take them right?
Still not understanding what the two have to do with each other. You do know the definition of tourist and illegal alien, right?

Sure I do but you aren't getting my point. Why should tourists be a drain on our infrastructure and medical system too. Lets outlaw tourists as well. Makes about as much sense

2007 was the last attempt. Bush was pushing for amnesty. So what you are saying is the GOP is once again the party of "no", even in spite of sponsoring an amnesty bill before.

Hint: Bush was not the entire GOP. Only 6 GOP Senators voted yes on cloture, and the bill had no GOP sponsors.

As many have pointed out before, Bush was the head of the party.

Not after the fact - consulates don't issue visas if they don't believe the applicant's purpose is proper or accurately described.

Hate to be cynical here, but a country can make *anybody* a citizen, and it's not really about privileges, it's about responsibility - specifically responsibilities to pay taxes and for military service.   The real question is whether the country can get jurisdiction over them, and while we often shortcut extradition and just kidnap our favorite suspects, not many countries can get away with that.

Do you honestly think they care as long as they are collecting the fees? All they are worried about is terrorism. A pregnant woman is hardly a suspect and enough money will get them a visa.

I don't think so.   Depending on the post, probably more than half of all visitor visas are denied.   That's based on conversations with consular officers and other people closely involved with visa issuance.

Let me elaborate - the incidence of bribery in US consular posts seems to be very low.     Foreign service officers may have flaws as a group, but by & large, they're honest people who know better than to risk a cushy gig.

Actually, the only blowboy here is you.

Having said that, I said Bush is the last one who pushed the amnesty. He isnt the only one.

Reagan in the 80's.

Chris Cannon who was denied renomination by a GOP convention for supporting amnesty.

In an effort to break an impasse on a pending immigration bill, Senate Republicans offered a proposal Wednesday that would allow many illegal immigrants now in the United States to eventually gain legal status.

Just last week, former Attorney General Ed Meese and Senators Jim DeMint (R.-S.C.) and Jeff Sessions (R.-Ala.) unveiled the essential principles for immigration reform. One of those principles is respect for the rule of law, which conservatives fear will be violated by any potential agreement that includes amnesty. Its unlikely that any deal will be cut that will satisfy conservatives, said Brian Darling, a congressional analyst at the Heritage Foundation. Any legislation containing Z visas is a non-starter because a Z visa is an amnesty visa.
(2008)

The GOP leadership, worried that the bill's provisions will frighten away corporate support from the party, refused to allow a vote on a widely popular amendment to deny automatic citizenship to babies born on U.S. soil to illegal aliens. Known as "anchor babies," the automatic citizenship granted them usually means that the illegal parents will not be deported. As result, the U.S. is often the destination of choice for many pregnant Mexican women.

"It's an incredible magnet for illegal immigration," said Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-CO.

Border area hospitals report alarmingly high births to illegals. At just one hospital, Fort Worth's John Peter Smith Hospital in Texas, more than 73 percent of 5,775 deliveries in 2005 were the children of illegal aliens, said hospital spokeswoman Drenda Witt.

Officials at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas were quoted in the Dallas Morning News saying that about 80 percent of some 16,000 women who gave birth there qualified for taxpayer-supported Medicaid funding for illegal aliens.

The amendment to deny automatic citizenship was sponsored by Rep. Nathan Deal, R-GA, and had at least 80 cosponsors from 26 states, but was not brought up for a vote.

http://www.manews.org/0106amnesty.html

So please, do us all a favor and dont lie anymore. Its becoming boring and tedious. The GOP is a party of "no". The GOP has sponsored many amnesty bills. The GOP has then refused to allow those bills to come up for vote, or voted them down. Its a game to them.

You do know there are a number of countries on the visa waiver list, yes? A total of 36. And those who travel on such are not required to have a visa if they stay less than 90 days?

do you know of any incidences of bribery in US consulates?

I tend to hear about law enforcement in that area because I watch industry publications.   A loose estimate would be that the most bribery busts come at ports of entry - individual agents get bribed.   Less common are bribes to agents inside the USA.   I don't recall hearing of a consular bribery case recently.

And that makes sense because as I point out, foreign service is a damn nice job if you're so inclined, and it makes no sense to risk it.   Apart from that, the visa is only the 1st step - the person who gets the last say, and can easily deny entry, is the POE inspector.

Visa waivers are not visas, and aren't cleared thru the US consulate.   Notice the countries that aren't on the list.

It is worth noting that at a time that everybody is taking off their shoes to enter any Federal building, the State Dept doesn't consider the risk worth looking at any German or Dutch citizen before they come to the US, including many who have recently come from Mideast & African countries.

We could say it's a clumsy bureaucracy, or that politicians are in the business of entertaining us with terror, and it could be either in any given case.

WASHINGTON — A former official at the U.S. consulate in Toronto was sentenced to a year in prison Wednesday for expediting visas in exchange for gifts of jewelry and trips with exotic dancers.

Mike O’Keefe admitted he expedited 21 visas for employees of STS Jewels between 2004-2006 and in return got the presents from the chief executive officer, Sunil Agrawal. The pair, who still call each other friend, were sentenced together by U.S. District Judge Paul L. Friedman

and how does that compare to frequency of bribery schemes in other immigration agencies?

No clue, we arent discussing other agencies. But dont forget the consulate killings in Mexico and the statement made about why the woman was killed. Is it true? We will never know.
