Tried clay,the cat just chucks it everywhere, more outside the box than inside, and I am not kidding here.Even tried sand of the beach, but the cat it seems prefers compressed wood chips

The spray does help but not 100%. It keeps the claws off the furniture and discourages presents being left in closets... first hand knowledge on that subject. Little is worse than pulling on work boots at oh-god-thirty to find kittle left a gift in there.
