I am trying to trace a limey ancestor because some guy telephoned me up saying my great grand aunt maud died iun 1880 and after exaustive searches by various companies they had found me as a distant relative and said I was entitled to her money and that I should contact a Mr Sherlock Holmes of 221b Baker Street, Marlebone, London W1. They said the British Government had wrongly claimed the money back in 1881 but because of a legal technicality they had to return it to any known relatives. I was given a number to telephone (number removed-Mod21). I rang that number and someone said Metropolitan Police, New Scotland Yard, which department please? I said I don't know I was asked to telephone your number! "Were you given a name Sir" Yes, a Sherlock Holmes! The person then burst out laughing and said would you like the number of the Sherlock Holmes Museum Sir? I replied that I wa not sure and was told that Sherlock Holmes did not work there and I could try Highgate Cemetary. I got th number for that place and telephoned and asked for him. I was told nobody of that name had ever worked there and they checked the burial list an nobody of that name had been buried or cremated there, but a Professor Moriarty had. I explained about the telephone call from limeyland. Tgey said well if they did not leave a number it may have been a hoax. A few days later I was caled again and given a number in Liverpool. Ther company exists and son do staff who work there but they had been given instructions that I must find and employ this detective to assist in getting the money. Does nyone in limeyland, ops sorry, England, no where I may find this Gentleman please?
