DCWoody -> UK Forestry to remain publicly funded. (2/17/2011 4:59:14 AM)

Public opposition, notably a 'not for sale' petition garnering half a million signatures, has lead to the cancellation of plans to transfer ownership of forests to various woodland trusts and charities. The opposition are taking the opportunity to shout at the government for not doing what they were shouting at the government for doing last week, but the conservatives used to do exactly the same thing when they were the opposition....

I was broadly in favour of the plan, but it's nice to have the government cede to public opinion.

To be honest there isnt much left of our forests that are in public hands anyway. Even so, this is still great news.

Yep. It's a bit pathetic to see Milliband's response, though.

Ha, good, the tories have failed to sell off another of our assets and being in a recession, no doubt at rock bottom price., and quite possibly to their millionaire cronies.

Perhaps the British public are waking up at last.

Have to admit, I signed the petition, my sister  had one to sign, so I did.
Very happy with the result:)

I also signed the petition, not because it was a poke in the eye to the conservative government, but because I would like to continue what freedoms I already have. Despite what so called assurances are made regards right of access to land once common owned now in private ownership, somehow, I  just don't trust the government, they have made that so, not just what is currently in power, but all of them since I don't know when, but the elitests that have sought power and held it for a good long while, Bliar was one of them. In government, I have yet to see anyone in power that knows what it is like to be near the bottom of society, a place many rise from, but it seems not those that have power over us, they, the government, any government, in my lifetime seem disconnected from much of the population and their cares.
