One of my favorite quotes is:

Other people repress their demons; we harness ours up and
take them for a ride. -- Bob H., per Claudia Varrin

Another is:

If you bring forth what is within you, what you bring forth
will save you. If you do not bring forth what is within you,
what you do not bring forth will destroy you.
(from the Gospel of Thomas...
...which admittedly is not
part of the official canon)

Please don't use either of them without attribution.

P.S. Thank you, LadySonelle... how refreshing to see your quotes attributed. Doesn't everyone belive in intellectual property rights??

When I can find the original in order to give proper attribution, I do so. It is not always possible (my library is a chaotic and variable thing, books are constantly being loaned and lost, while new ones miraculously appear). However, since I favor academic and somewhat esoteric sources, I find that attribution is not only vastly simplified, it is some times nessesary simply because of the relative obscurity of the quote. In the case of many of the catch-phrases I've seen used as sig lines, the original author is frequently unknown, and in fact may be unknowable.

You know, I'll tell you what, my first one on a website, it had "author unknown." The rest of them are bumperstickers. I couldn't tell you where they came from originally.

Just so you know. :)

Here's one that has always stayed with me since I first heard it:

The guy who directed the movie "Deep Throat" gave an interview to a reporter one time. He described the various technical problems involved in making the movie, mostly having to do with overcoming Linda Lovelace's gag reflex. For example, they would have her "practice" lying on her back on a pool table, with her head hanging off. He summed up with...

***********Drumroll...*****************

"Once you get past that little patch at the back of the throat, you have the whole esophagus to work with."
