Welcome to CM and the boards. You do a lot of reading, either fiction or older/newer threads on the various forums here. You learn as you go. You trust your gut instinct and don't go with the first person who makes you think you're absolutely the one. Public meetings are a must for firsts, and get thee to local munches and events in your area. That should start you off nicely. Take your time, there's no rush and there's no 1-2-3 poof there is the *one*.
