To me "submit vs surrender" is just another sub vs. slave argument.

quote:

I get the sense that submission involves a waking up each day and making the reaffirmation of choice to continue on the current path of submission, whereas "surrender" puts someone into a locked 'contract' (figuratively) unless the contract itself is violated somehow.

I hear this sort of thing all the time - "submission is a choice, a slave has no choice", but in reality, I don't see it.  It would be the same to me as saying that loving someone is a conscious choice you make every day.  No, you just live it.  It's not a constant choice or a constant decision.  Good heavens, that would wear me out.

I agree with this strongly, though I don't live on that side of the leash. Submission is a state of being. Even if you could change the way you feel on short notice, it wouldn't just be something that you could do as effortlessly as waking up and being like "yeah, not today. Time to go."

What is your opinion of the concept of surrender? On the other site, LuckyAlbatross gave these two definitions, which i agree with --
"Submission is simply operating under the authority of another. Surrender is giving yourself completely over without resistance."
What does "without resistance" mean to you?

ill bet most people have surrendered themselves to something at some point in their lives.  its that moment when you have no choice but to surrender.  like you get pulled over by a policeman for speeding or jumping a red light.  if you dont surrender youreself to that process youre going to get into heaps of trouble.

i have surrendered myself within Ds and Ms and its a really peaceful feeling.  you just let go.

while there is resistance youre mind is getting in the way, youre not allowing the process to take a hold, youre questioning and maybe even trying to think up ways to avoid the inevitable or maybe it isnt inevitable and whilst theres an 'out' youre mind trips over the possibilities of taking that 'out' or staying put, which gets in the way of you letting go.

letting go of everything, youre mind, body, all possible 'outs' and just surrendering completely is probably for me the closest ill ever get to sub space.

submission is what i do the rest of the time, tripping over my mind and thoughts and feelings and at times fumbling through the dark in my attempt to reach where im supposed to be reaching.

surrender is a relief.

No, it's not a constant choice at the forefront of mind, but just as it's *internalised* that you have NO choice, it's also *internalised* that you DO have one. It doesn't mean that it's the first thought you have when you wake up......it's just known and understood.
