Anywhere?

In the "Annoyed" thread NorthernGent asked why help a country that most people couldn't find on a map. That piqued my curiousity.

We talk about world politics, but do we know where the countries are located?

I struggled a bit Hlen. I answered England, Scotland and France to all of 'em, so totalled somewhere around zero points.

So what did you get score-wise? Out of 162 I got an abysmal 62.

107. I knew there was something up with the map, didn't realise what until it asked for 'western sahara'.

Western Sahara is fairly unrecognised, like Somaliland or Ossetia. It isn't on 'standard' maps.

Scored a 107 myself, surprised I did as well as that. Reading all those Clive Cussler novels set in Africa has apparently paid off.

150. I collected stamps as a kid. I also had a set of the World Book Encyclopedia. I liked to read about where the stamps were from. Sometomes I would send off to embassies for stuff. That's how I got a copy of The Little Red Book when I was 14 or 15.

Try the Mexico map. 86 out of 96. I missed Tlaxcala 'cause my mouse wasn't positioned right. Hell, how many Amis could name all the provinces of Canada? Or even all the states?

My education on the Middle East, appears to be of of date, the normal age old countries I know, but not the newer stuff from the break up of the USSR. Similarly, Africa, North Africa, East, central and South I know, but the West coast has always been a problem for me. Mind, my atlas when I was young, was an old British Empire atlas where two thirds of the world were part of the British Empire. The Middle East, I always used to read anything on the Middle East, Arabia etc, as the place always fascinated me. One book by Hammond Innes, I actually found in the country what he mentioned in his book, so his research was very good.
