so, recently i stated to D, "sheesh, it seems now, every where i look/listen, i see reference to dominance, and slavery"

He thought i was being silly, and just listening to NIN too much

Any of you see this weeks south park? cartman is made submissive [like, really]! i just found it totally entertaining, and if any of you viewers missed it, i reccomend attaining it, its quite humorous.

I don't watch the show but I do notice that as I learned more about BDSM and negotiation the easier it was for me to notice the Ds in everyday life AND to stand up for myself and not allow myself to be put into a situation without my consent or thought.

Ds is all around us -- laws, authority figures, situations, require a give and take, often we must bend to others or have some authority or power over others.

I'd say my learning about and experiences in BDSM have made me much less tolerant of non-consensual situations than I was before.

I saw the episode. I didn't think of it as submissive in the sense of M/s-D/s lifestyles, but in the sense of dog training. Dog trainers have used words like "submissive, alpha, dominance, etc.." for a long time.
However, Moral Orel (on Adult Swim) has an upcoming episode about Moral joining the local S&M scene. I'm looking forward to seeing it.

yes i know, but i found the part where cartman goes up to his mother [after being broken for the first time] the way he curled up next to her greatly reminded me of after i got my first hardcore punishment.

i didnt apply it to M/s either, but submissive nature is submissive nature, no mattter its context.

Ds as in dominance submission in the relationships as WE use it is very different IMO than "dominance" and "submission."

One is a personal intimate relationship based upon on the transfer of authority.

The others are social public relationships based on social needs interactions that have transfer of authority as an inherent part of their workings.

I agree that "dominance" and "submission" is part of the daily flow of life and its workings.  But I don't consider that "Ds."

I agree that it is quite different. Most of the time power dynamics and authority is just followed or resisted in everyday life without much thought.

For me, being in BDSM has enabled me to see power and authority in all sorts of interactions where I was not conscious of it before. I think it has made me more able to stand up for myself and to get further in the mundane world by recognizing the dynamics around me.

I absolutely love that show but I missed that episode.  South Park also has had a character for a few seasons named Mr. Slave who was the gay submissive to the boy's teacher.  Definitly entertaining, even if he is a very cliche version of someone with a fetish.

After South Park, Drawn Together comes on.  In one episode, Foxy (a black chick with a fox tail)  has a guy lick her boots.  He stopped licking for a moment and she looked down at him and said, "did I tell you to stop lickin'?"  Of course he dutifully resumed!

DelightMachine -> RE: surrounded by M/s D/s!!!! [south park] (5/5/2006 4:48:09 PM)

Haven't seen the South Park episode, but ...

1. Today in a book store I was looking at a travel guide to Boston, I think it was in the "Time Out" series of travel guides, and they had two mentions of the big Boston fetish event in August and December -- I think they said it was at the Boston Sheraton.

2. The Producers had a walk-on role for a gay leather guy. He was among a slew of guys dressed in gay stereotypes in one scene.

We're at the point now where BDSM is a joke everywhere in the media, which I guess is probably progress. Maybe this is where gays were in relation to the rest of society in about the late 70s. Then again, I remember Johnny Carson in the 80s making a joke about masochism that looked suspiciously like he knew a thing or two about sub space. Maybe it'll plateau for a good long while.

Mr. Slave makes me happy. [:)] But should he really be called "Mr."? And shouldn't it be in lowercase? Heehee.

I think that South Park episode was more about the whole parents trying to be friends with their kids, creating misbehaving bratty kids (the type that you see damn near everywhere these days).  And the last resort being using a dog trainer to try to get Cartman to calm down (and the minute the dog trainer leaves the mother goes right back into getting Cartman to be her best friend by buying his attention).

Now South Park did have a reoccuring character for about a year called Mr. Slave who was all dressed in leathers and was Mr. Garrisons Slave, before Mr. Garrison became Ms. Garrison.  They had a whole episode on the journey of Lemmewinks, a gerbil that was up Mr. Slave's ass from some weird handballing between him and Mr. Garrison.

C~

yes but if you had read further you would have seen my main point [which at the time i hadnt realized i didnt make] was his reaction to the training, the way he came up to her after being 'broken'. much the way a lot of us act after a punishment.
