This is where semantic preferences cloud such an issue. "Belief" in a concept (or personal application of it) is not necessary to the point of whether the structure/definition of that very concept happens to apply to one's relationship.

Agreed.

you just said that because it was to damn hard to understand ( and you have both a nice chair)

I think the difference is in the level of commitment.  A sub is willing to give up a certain amount of control, where as a slave will give up a lot more, if not all.  I agree with my Master, other than a very few hard limits, mainly scat and blood, I have given total control to my Master however and whenever he chooses.
I identify as a submissive and have done exactly the same. And I'm fully committed to be submissive to him. So, in my relationship your theory doesn't hold water.

That's not total, now, is it?

That's like saying , I give my Master total control, APART from .......If you have an *apart from* then it's not total

agirl

There was no "apart". We have a TPE relationship, period. Just because I don't believe in consensual slavery, doesn't mean that my commitment level or submission is less than someone who does.

I was responding the the comment that Piccola made ( you just happened to say that you do* exactly the same*) It was her point I was replying to, which I thought would have been obvious..........as you didn't say it :)

Actually, what clouds the issue is the same thing as always clouds the issue here in BDSM-land. It's the use of unbounded totalities to support a fantasy. That's why I like my usage of total with Carol. Other people may or may not agree with it, but at least it's measurable. She either has or has not obeyed every command I've given her. If so, then it's total. If not, then it's something less than total.

That definition, of course, isn't going to work for most people since it precludes anyone with a punishment dynamic. But it works for me and I can describe it and measure it.

MistressRage -> RE: Difference Between Submissive & Slave?. (3/10/2011 9:16:30 AM)

The difference, for me, is that a slave is not given the option to say no. They do as they're told and that's that. A submissive, on the other hand, allows him or herself to be dominated under certain parameters—for example only during a BDSM play party, only by members of the opposite sex or for a certain set of activities.

Remember, some folks don't differentiate between the word submissive and the word slave—some use both terms interchangeably. It's always good to ask someone what their idea of it is since, in BDSM, there is no single way of doing things. There is a lot of freedom and leeway on what different things mean to each person.

Are people still dancng to this old tune? ... really? In the end, it's basically this:

My relationship works like THIS: ________ (fill in the blank)
We call each other ___________ and _______________ (also fill in the blanks)

How ever it works for you is cool.

Im new to . the scene what is the difference of being a Slave and Submissive?:)

The same difference there is between a Sinner and a Saint. Just a different view of the world and worldly things.

S. Misereatur tui omnipotens Deus, et dimissis peccatis tuis, perducat te ad vitam aeternam.
P. Amen.

If it isn't obvious by now ,   you'll get as many different answers , as people giving the answers  !    Perhaps be more concerned with attaining the desired behaviors , rather than the labels ,  and just enjoy !

Iskander -> RE: Difference Between Submissive & Slave?. (3/11/2011 5:57:19 PM)

A slave waits kneeling at the door with a cold beer for you to come home from work...
Sometimes you are late and the beer is warm..
A sub kneels before you after you get home and asks if you desire a cold beer..

or wait... was it the other way around?!

M I..

domiguy -> RE: Difference Between Submissive & Slave?. (3/11/2011 6:29:30 PM)

Maybe the difference for some is the level of desperation.

Maybe it is the need for some dude to be able to refer to himself as a Master without someone laughing.

It has no bearing in the world or in my life. I have jokingly referred to women as subs or slaves but beyond that there is nothing in those words that has any meaning in my life.

"How can you dare to disobey me, when your profile clearly was marked as slave? I am contacting the better business bureau."

You debate the meanings of these words while we have witnessed so many people bounce form one extreme to the next. They are nothing, these words.

You actually come out here searching for one or the other? What kind of a guy seeks out a slave?

What is the current equation of slaves to psych meds?

lobodomslavery -> RE: Difference Between Submissive & Slave?. (9/9/2011 9:49:35 AM)

There is no one answer. I think that is blindingly obvious from what people have written. Some masters and mistresses will treat their slaves very well, some will give them a large amount of choices, other masters and mistresses will be more dictatorial and even submissives will have fewer choices than some slaves elsewhere will have, i would say shop around, look at profiles, ask yourself how much servitude do you want to give, ask yourself do you want to be an instrument of pain if the answer is yes migrate to the Doms and Dommes who are sadistic if the answer is no migrate to the Doms and Dommes who are more moderate

Yes.  Isn't it a shame that some folks ignored the OP's question completely?

OP, along with the answers that you did receive, I'll add one more.  A submissive is someone in a D/s dynamic.  A slave is someone in a M/s dynamic.

Lady you beat me to it. OP, i have met some that agree with LadyP, and i have also found that it can also be used to descripe the type of lifestyle as well. Subs bing more "bedroom bdsm" while slave is more "24/7 bdsm"

My favorite definition ever!

Also like the BBB reference :)

UberBrat -> RE: Difference Between Submissive & Slave?. (9/9/2011 1:35:44 PM)

In my opinion, there is no real answer.
They are both the same, and different, things.

I don't seem to fit either the "sub" or the "slave" criteria exactly.
I'm neither, I'm both, I'm somewhere inbetween.
I'm just his.
