I can only assume the notary is his wife because here where I live I can tell you that you would have to be awfully stupid to put your seal/stamp on such a document. A judge would be calling you up asking you "wtf?".

This is the dumbest thing I've read in a long time regarding American Jurisprudence. I'm glad this asshat's name, etc. is right out there, so people will know what a dimwit he is. As to the Notary Public, all she is required to do (in Virginia) is place the Affiant under oath as to the truthfulness of the contents of that document. It may have been the truth, but swearing to and signing one's name to such drivel is nuts. I wouldn't notarize something like that, for certain, but the Notary's job is to give the oath and sign off that the person made the oath under penalty of perjury. In Virginia, the wife wouldn't be allowed to notarize her husband's documents because she is a beneficiary of his working and not being a juror.

If I were the judge I would have told him to follow through with what he offered and count the wrinkles on his dog's balls.

That document was prepared with the help of his wife.  Yup, it took the combined brainpower of both of them.  And she is the notary.

I can't believe that he got excused from jury duty.  Like rewarding him for his little tantrum.

I've dealt with notaries in several states.  More often than not (in the states I've dealt with), the notary is ONLY attesting that the person signing is who they say they are - that their identity has been established.  The notarization has nothing to do with the contents of the document.  Geez Red, Virginia always has to be different, doesn't it?

Would you want this guy on a jury even after he apologized?

Me too, Hill.  I definitely wouldn't want him on any jury, which I'm sure that is exactly what the guy wanted, but it still seems like he got away with something.

Karma, however, is a bitch, and I'm sure she'll be biting him in the ass sometime in the future.

Just to nitpick, since that's what I do for a living... The wife's name is Jennifer. The notary's name is Susan McHedrick. The article states that the wife (Jennifer) helped create the document, but she did not notarize it.
