I like to make gear, gear turns me on. Well done leather and metal looks so damn hot when you build it to fit someone-even more fun to use.

Can take a long time to build a harness.....but watching someone wigglin round, tryin to get out of something you made REALLY inescapable is wonderful.

Anybody else get off on doing this sort of thing?

I used to have a small business making custom stainless steel designer toys. My best piece was a variable speed vibrator with a Swarovski crystal on off button, beautiful smooth action. Butt plugs made to what ever size people wanted. Anything really. I really enjoyed myself and it got me invited to many a party. They were pretty expensive so the market was small but exclusive. I once got a commision to make a set of toys for a wedding night. That was fun.

I have made some awesome cuffs, collars, bondage belts and all kinds of manacles out of stainless. Has to fit snug, but not too. And I like things I can take off fast-but the bottom can't.

I have a lathe and mill-so I have made butt and enema plugs as well. Not to mention, furniture. It's never all about toys, but they sure make it easier-if you do them right!

I'm convinced the crafting/equipment is a kink in itself for some people.

I like crafty type stuff but as far as hardware, anything that requires something more complicated than a screwdriver is a big project for me.  I'm quite happy to support the secondary and tertiary labor force by buying great stuff off the rack, all pretty and ready to go.

Kidless -> RE: Makin stuff (5/5/2006 11:01:59 AM)

Ya lucky, I just love doing this-but off the rack is very often not up to the need. You ever try to find a bondage belt that fits the taper of a woman's waist in a store?

Not very damn likely-they make then cookie cutter straight-if you can even find one. I've made huge investements in gear for past partners of mine-it made us both happy. Lots of tops are lazy-but I get mine back in a good time-and usually part on happy terms if a girl finds someone else-and give her the stuff.

It's nice to keep friends by not being too needy or greedy.[;)]

Leather by Danny baby.

There are some very good quality guys out there.  And if you make friends with them, you can get all sorts of custom stuff :)

Too expensive I'll stick to doin my thing. I do business,I buy material wholesale.

CrappyDom -> RE: Makin stuff (5/5/2006 12:08:54 PM)

I make all sorts of beautiful and unusual wood toys but one thing I have never seen anyone do other than me is do the old sailing art of line wipping.  It is the art of wrapping the ends of line (rope) in a decorative fashion to keep it from unraveling.  I wish this place would host pictures as I would post one, but imagine instead of tape or heat sealed hard ends, each end of the black line is wrapped in red with a trace of silver that follows the twist of the three strands.

It isn't overly hard, takes a bit of practice to get the tension right but it is really a thing of beauty when done.  Course you have to really like rope...or line...or bondage which few in the lifestyle today can appreciate as much as those of us who were doing this last year...

Kidless -> RE: Makin stuff (5/5/2006 12:14:23 PM)

Shibari is cool, I learned it from people who did it on websites. But whipping nylon,I just use a needles and run it through the wrappings, tie it under.

I guess what you do depends on time and motivation.

Shrink wrapping is easier.

I know a few people in the scene who do their own.  I buy from twistedmonk who does it for me :)

CrappyDom -> RE: Makin stuff (5/5/2006 12:34:13 PM)

Kid, easy isn't what I am looking for, beauty is my goal.

Kidless -> RE: Makin stuff (5/5/2006 12:45:18 PM)

I know about that,grins

Shibari is all about the "Look"

MsMirielle -> RE: Makin stuff (5/5/2006 1:05:53 PM)

Do you make custom stuff to order?

Kidless -> RE: Makin stuff (5/5/2006 1:15:20 PM)

It depends on what it is, and how complicated it is.

If it's too much hassle, I pass on it.

Definition of too much hassle. I'll make five bucks an hour by the time I'm done.

The design is totally picky and impossible.

You want it yesterday

I'm fine, if the above three are not involved.

I think twistedmonk's rope is great and looks beautiful- and I love their hemp smell.

branzkow -> RE: Makin stuff (5/7/2006 1:50:36 PM)

Hah! I totally get off on making kinky stuff. I think customers see me getting excited as we're working on the design of a custom product, and after a new design is finished I'm often looking for someone to try it onto within minutes.

slavejali -> RE: Makin stuff (5/7/2006 3:05:34 PM)

I've made a bunch of our stuff, I really enjoy it. I think it has a better energy (feng shui) than store bought stuff. I've made floggers (just love braiding the handles), cuffs, pussy whips, Master even had me help in one project he did, had me sanding a cane etc the he varnished and put a handle on. The quilt on our bed I made myself, it has that symbol that kinda looks like a ying yang but is in  3 sections that has symbolic bdsm meaning.

One project yet to do is make some whips. We have a property that abounds with kangaroos, want to use kangaroo leather for them. Master said he will shoot etc but I really want a koori person to do it so they make the kills in the correct spiritual way, that kinda stuff is important to me....getting them out to the property is another thing though, koori's have their own sense of time..(we've been waiting 2 years) lol

SubtleCuriosity6 -> RE: Makin stuff (5/7/2006 3:31:17 PM)

I've made a few leather toys but if I'm looking for quality work I'll pay the price for a pro.  I'm a perfectionist who is all thumbs. I've been working on a collar now for 3 months for a special person.  Hopefully I'll have it finished before he makes it home to wear it. lol
