Eric Holder: Black Panther case focus demeans 'my people'

Push the buttons just a bit, the truth has a way of slipping out.

I'm not up on all the details of the case (I remember there being some threads on back when), but from his comments he certainly seems to be somewhat biased...maybe the panthers did get a pass, but in all honesty to call it "the most serious act of voter intimidation he had witnessed in his career." is somewhat of an exaggeration, though to Bull's defense (assuming it is Bartle Bull the younger) he was born after all the civil rights activity which Holder referred to, though I somehow suspect it was Bull the elder they were quoting.

A couple of people? Wait a second now, its more than just two Black Panthers who are involved in this, the President of the United States is involved, as is the Attorney General, as is the Congress, as well as the people these gangsters were trying to intimidate.

Because of this racist attorney generals inaction (who serves at the pleasure of the president) the case is now a whole lot larger than the original incident.

quote:

Rep. Chaka Fattah, a Democrat from Philadelphia, said the Black Panthers "should not have been there." But he said the GOP was making too much out of a fleeting incident involving a couple of people.

If I believed for one second that the AG would have the same response, if the voters had been black and the intimidators been white, I could buy his "It aint that big a deal" line.

But, I don't believe he would call it the same way, if that were the case. He just can't admit he is busted.

IMHO

It's not any larger.

It's just another non-issue that should have been put to rest long ago.

I dare you to find a criminal statute those two violated. They can't be prosecuted for a crime they did not commit.

I will also point out that far worse voter intimidation goes on without the right wingers getting in a tizzy. For instance:

If you would have double dawg dared me I might do it-lol.

There may very well be no criminal stature that was violated. I'd bet none were violated when the races were reversed years ago, if you get technical.

That said, I still believe the AG would be whistling a different tune had it been the other way around this time.

Like I said, my opinion only.

The freaks of Westboro aren't violating any laws, but that doesn't make them any less wrong and insane.

The Attorney General cannot prosecute something he has no basis in law to prosecute.

It's that simple.

I dare you to address the Attorney General of these United States declaring race is a factor in how he views the application of law. (Do remember that he was perfectly willing to challenge the Arizona statute without having bothered to read it)

There is no discrepancy on how the law was applied.

And I am not even going to post the links again, because this thread has been done numerous times.

You're just recycling it because some Republican from Texas decided to resurrect a dead issue.

But while we are on the subject Richie, what exactly is the argument being made by you and other conservatives?

That it was all because Holder is black?

Would you be making the same argument if he was white?

Well, RML, I cannot and don't speak for them. As for what I think;

Holder stepped on his dick, again. Even followed by his Alinskyesque denial ( ) that it affects his running the DOJ, "my people," isn't how the AG ought to be envisioning the big picture. There is a reason the lady in the statue is blindfolded*.

*Yes. Ashcroft was a fucking prude.

It's really simple, for it to be voter intimidation there must be an overt act, like accosting people entering a polling place and demanding they prove they can speak English. The NBPP guys are accused of standing in front of a polling place and having the bad luck to be caught by a FNC camera crew. That isn't a crime.

You're not going to get anywhere near the AG's remarks, are you Ken?

Typical.

Typical.

You mean this:
"This Department of Justice does not enforce the law in a race-conscious way"

Seems pretty clear to me.

Well, let's put it back into context with the full quote that you seem to conveniently want to ignore:

"Think about that," Holder said. "When you compare what people endured in the South in the 60s to try to get the right to vote for African Americans, and to compare what people were subjected to there to what happened in Philadelphia—which was inappropriate, certainly that…to describe it in those terms I think does a great disservice to people who put their lives on the line, who risked all, for my people," said Holder, who is black.

Still reads the same.
