You hear a lot about the importance of voting from all sorts of people, but I think we place much too much emphasis on voting and not nearly enough on educating ourselves about the issues. So it's good to register and it's good to vote, but you have to at least cast a well-informed vote. We get the office-holders we deserve. I'm really not bothered when I hear the number of voters is down. I tale that to mean that only the more interested and better informed voters are at the polls. I wish we still had a poll tax to keep away uninformed, unmotivated voters. It's too bad that was tangled up with racism in the past and now it's been outlawed. (This isn't a criticism of the OP -- I see the people who responded here are all people who have shown they take an interest in the issues.)
