Obama restarts Guantanamo trials

quote:

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama reversed course Monday and ordered a resumption of military trials for terror suspects at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, making his once ironclad promise to close the isolated prison look even more distant.

Guantanamo has been a major political and national security headache for the president since he took office promising to close the prison within a year, a deadline that came and went without him ever setting a new one.

So, two years later, and without having the simple decency to admit President Bush had already made the only workable choice, the Gitmo detainee trials will be resuming.

Two fucking years it takes him to figure this out??? And then he whines about how he doesn't like it, but isn't competent to get his vision through Congress? Don't even start about how the Repubs have the House, because he had a good long run of failing to deliver while Pelosi was in charge, too.

God help us all when the phone rings, and he has to make an immediate decision, without any do-overs later.

Depends if we are using the definition where treating people differently because of their skin color is the measure, or the modern definition where it's "racist" NOT to have different expectations based on that.

Obama has really douched up his Presidency. I still like him better than the last guy which is saying very little.

He was given a raw deal when he stepped into office...But so many of his choices and promises have been fairly damn lackluster at best.

The bailout was about the only thing he did right.

That is all wrong.  The congress has made it impossible to try these folks in civilian court in the united states, or to send them to other countries.

There is no Bush was right component to this.   After two years of trying to do this via the civilian system and being stopped at every turn, the administration decides to sell what's on the cart.

He was given a large majority in the House and a filibuster proof Senate.
