i don't know if this is the right forum to post this in but here goes...i had my second ever bikini wax today...the whole enchilada kind.  the first one took one hour and wasn't completed, i was given no advice on ingrown hairs or how to help the swelling or anything....and it cost $85

today, it took 15 minutes...she was ripping so fast i didn't have time to think of the pain, she gave me some pointers on care over the next couple of weeks, a cold rag to help with swelling, a few minutes alone to recover and it only cost me $25.

this just seems like such a wide swing of the pendulum, i was wondering which experience is more the norm. does anyone have any input?

That's about what Senpai and I experience when we go for waxings.  Best advice is find a place your comfortable with and you trust and stick with them.  Professionalism, Price, and care for the areas afterwards are what we use to decide.  On the bright side, at least your of the more affordable gender for waxing =)  Even if the area is less, things usually cost about $20-$30 more if your male. Brazilian are usually about 50-60 more for males too.   On a side note there seems to be a large price difference by region too, west coast is about x2 the price as the east cost, and the south west is about x2.5 the price of the east coast.

So yes I would say your experience is the norm.  Find a person you like at a salon you trust and then stick with it =)  Oh, and shea butter is good for afterwards, it sooths the skin and gets rid of any extra stickyness.  The exfoliant gloves help a lot for in grown hairs, and 2 Mortin about 30 mins prior helps with the swelling.  And I swear ankles are the worst spot ever... worse then Brazilian.

Edited- For after care comments.

thanks for the shea butter tip, the stickyness is worse than the waxing almost.  i think i'll be staying with the salon i used today, she was friendly, knew what she was doing and i felt taken care of not like just another dollar in the till.

I wax for a living, and depending on the type of salon you visit, it could change the price range, I've worked one place where bikini waxes were 100 + and then I've worked places where they are under 40 bucks...

The best advise I can give anyone who goes for a wax, is to ask your stylist/ operator if THEY like waxing, if they do, your in good luck, if you get one who doenst care for it, but does it because her slaon offers it, you may not get as good a job done..

Now for some good hints...

DO-

1)Apply a tiny bit of baby ambsol, it's something for teething, and can help decrease the pain of waxing

2)make sure to wear loose clothing, so that it doesnt irratate your flesh after waxing

3) If you know your a bleeder or turn VERY pink, ask them to lay down a very thin line of baby powder down before waxing, for the wax will then grab the powder instead of to many layers of skin

DON'T

1) Drink a whole lot of water the day your waxing, it makes the tissures easier to rip, hense makingit easy to pull of an extra layer of skin or two

2) Dont get waxed three days before or durning or after your period, because of fluids built up in the flesh

3) Do not wax if your pregnant and close to giving birth..about a month or so out, agian, to many fluids in the skin

4) Do not use hot water, such as hot bath or hot tub, for 4-6 hours after waxing, as it can damage the freshly revieled skin

5) do not use make up, for 4-6 hours

6 and more important) DO NOT LIE TO YORU OPPERATOR : if they ask questions such as ...are you using pimple meds..are you on your period...do not liem BE HONEST because there are things that we can do to help make it easier for you, if you tell us the truth

Good luck and happy waxing
