popeye1250 -> What is going on with NPR? (3/10/2011 10:53:03 AM)

Big shakeup at NPR. The director was fired from her $500k a year job.
Another employee was taped calling other news sources "Zionist" and using anti-semitic slurs.
And they said publically that they don't "need" taxpayer dollars but privately that they do want public funding.
Some of the news agencies appear to be giving this, "a good leaving alone."

Vivian Schiller, NPR's CEO and president since January 2009, left that job today in the wake of the second high-profile controversy to hit the organization in the past six months.

Dave Edwards, chairman of NPR's board, said directors came to the conclusion that the controversies under Schiller's watch had become such a distraction that she could no longer effectively lead the organization. She had told the directors that they should take the action they felt was appropriate, and Edwards said the board decided it would be best for her to depart.

Already under fire from Republicans who want to strip its federal financing, NPR was forced into damage-control mode on Tuesday after the release of a video that showed one of its fund-raising executives repeatedly criticizing Republicans and Tea Party supporters.

In the video, the executive, Ronald Schiller, tells people posing as Muslim philanthropists that the Republican Party has been “hijacked” by the Tea Party and that Tea Party supporters are “seriously racist, racist people.”

The video was the product of James O’Keefe, a Republican provocateur, whose organization helped trick Mr. Schiller into attending a lunch and sharing what he said were his personal opinions.

The people he is heard talking to on the videotape were posing as members of the fictional Muslim Education Action Center Trust. They falsely claimed that they wanted to donate up to $5 million to public media. NPR did not accept any money from them.

The chief executive of NPR, Vivian Schiller, who is unrelated to Mr. Schiller, said in an interview that she was shocked by the comments.

Well, it's not just "Republicans" or "Tea-Partiers" who want to strip their funding. I wonder what the average person on the street has to say about this?
And what is it with the Left and all their anti-semitism?
And they all seem to think that Israel, surrounded by savages is the bad guy!

mnottertail -> RE: What is going on with NPR? (3/10/2011 11:30:58 AM)

Your colocating of non sequiturs only leads you to the abyss.

Nothing going on with NPR, no more than any other company these days, it is just making news is all.

How we doing on getting our finances under control?

thinking1 -> RE: What is going on with NPR? (3/10/2011 11:43:18 AM)

“...a Republican provocateur”  who “tricked” the poor fellow from NPR into revealing his honest thoughts that conservatives are  against intellectualism and “really, really racist”. Why that James O’Keefe should be ASHAMED for  going after the TRUTH! After all  he had to trick them into thinking they were  with people who shared their own bigoted outlook so that they would  show their  true colors.
And – by the way-  “Muslim philanthropists” not exactly…. Members of the Muslim Brotherhood- a movement that supports  caliphate and jihad against Americans--- THAT is who they presented themselves to be.

EternalHoH -> RE: What is going on with NPR? (3/10/2011 11:52:57 AM)

Shocked! Shocked I say, that one person at NPR pulled an everyday "O'Reilly".

EternalHoH -> RE: What is going on with NPR? (3/10/2011 11:57:59 AM)

And give NPR credit - heads rolled.   Which is how it should be.   Just like Rick Sanchez, and Juan Williams.

Sanity -> RE: What is going on with NPR? (3/10/2011 11:58:35 AM)

Bill O'Reilly, Chris Mathews, Keith Obermann etc arent taxpayer funded.

Sure they are.  Tax breaks for corporate owners.  Ever heard of them?

What else is there to do?   Put Hunky's or One's conspiracy hat on?

Someone got punked, and someone else got rightfully fired in the housecleaning.

I am truly sorry that you are struggling so hard to make any hay out of it.

Sanity -> RE: What is going on with NPR? (3/10/2011 12:12:44 PM)

Sorry, thats just stupid.

DomKen -> RE: What is going on with NPR? (3/10/2011 12:14:10 PM)

Please, this is all made up bullshit by O'Keefe and his cohorts.

There is nothing wrong with anyone, even an NPR employee, having opinions. The First Amendment even protects those employees right to express those opinions.

As to the phony complaints about taxpayer support, I oppose the political opinions of the ownership of Haliburton which receives far more tax money than NPR does. I'll support defunding NPR right after we defund Haliburton.

And don't forget, those "bury the decline" e-mails from the warmers were,....."stolen."

Gee DomKen, so being anti-semitic is now,....."an opinion?"

Lucylastic -> RE: What is going on with NPR? (3/10/2011 12:35:24 PM)

Apart from the fact that Ron Schiller  resigned in january way before he was taped, his leaving date was may, but he is gone now... but that slipped the truthful right.
But this is a smoke screen to hide the fact that the repubs are up shits creek without a paddle.
So they are lollygagging pointing out opinions as slander/libel against racist teabaggers
where are the slander/libel suits??
snorts

EternalHoH -> RE: What is going on with NPR? (3/10/2011 12:37:10 PM)

I do think there is a small population that likes to over-react anytime criticism is leveled on Jews, tho.

Kinda like when criticism of Christianity usually results in claims of 'persecution' by a small band of 'activists'.

The only guy who is stupid is the one guy that thinks private corporations receive no tax money.

hlen5 -> RE: What is going on with NPR? (3/10/2011 12:57:54 PM)

When I heard this I was thinking, this guy was trying to schmooze a possible $5 million donor, do you think they are going to say "you're full of shit"??

I'm not all that concerned that they were "tricked". In their position, they KNEW what they said would represent NPR.

I listen to NPR and (sometimes) support it financially.

ETA: I think NPR is more deserving of public funds than tax breaks for b/millionaires.

Lucylastic -> RE: What is going on with NPR? (3/10/2011 1:02:20 PM)

I just sent a donation to NPR and I dont listen:)

You're claiming a nod of the head is anti semitism?
