The "hair stuck in my collar" thread got me thinking -- what are some practical issues you've run into relating to activities/ideas of "the lifestyle," and what are some of your work-arounds?

one of my most recent ones was when i got into my "casual service" thing with my Toppy friend, i didn't realize quite how much time i'd lose for getting stuff done around my own house. washing dishes there, and then doing them here started to irk me, so i just forced myself to get them done and make myself "like" doing dishes more; that way, it didn't seem like quite as much of a chore. (he's got a dishwasher, and i don't, so his dishes are less annoying to do than mine. haha =p)
in my previous relationship, i lived in an apt. with a dishwasher, and we were basically always together, so if i did dishes at my place, it was still just as good, in his eyes, as if i did them at his. =p but if i do dishes at my house now, i still haven't fulfilled "my end of the deal" at my Top-friend's house -- not that our friendship will shrivel up and die over it, i just feel bad. haha =p
so... more time management, and just more dishwashing. =p

anyway, feel free to share.

sharing time and energy for another in my life but I never see that as a bad thing and he's completely understanding and we both keep in mind that it won't always be like this. We both work around it by putting other things aside sometimes when we get too caught up in life and also realizing that sometimes like just gets in the way and we all have to put other priorities before one or both of us.

Patience

Pull all the cool little metal hooks, clips and clasps off your rope before you toss it in the washer.

My main problem is speaking up and telling him that I have errands of my own. He makes a plan for what we're doing that day and it's just his stuff. Which means mine isn't getting done.

That and trying to find alone time when we never know how many kids will be here.

If she doesn't have time to do the dishes, then I guess either we free up some of her time or I do the dishes that day...not a big deal. You are still a partnership...regardless of how senior one of those partners is.

yeah i agree; i mean he isn't my partner, we're friends and this service thing is an agreement between us.
the world doesn't end if i don't get the dishes done, but i feel bad because it's my end of the deal. =p he's perfectly capable of washing dishes (if he was a do-nothing, i wouldn't do them for him, haha) but you know...

so -- time management it is!

I've always liked 'A' frames so, being the practical type, I built a wooden one. First prototype was a bit unwieldy, esp getting it through a doorway, but generally did the job. Then my relationship with an almost 6ft fem/sub ended and 5ft 2 Suzy came into my life. Of course her feet couldn't touch the floor when draped along it, so back to the shed for a complete rebuild.

Fast forward a few years and another new relationship (sigh) and the new girl was around 5ft 8 and looked like an adult riding a kid's bicycle when secured to it. *groan* Back to the drawing-board; yet another rebuild - and an idea....

Today I'm the proud owner of probably the world's only height adjustible and fold-up 'A' frame. Being made of steel tubing, it doesn't have the intimidating aesthetics that bulky timbers project but it performs its primary function (helpless, accessible submissive) with distinction and is easy to carry to another room.

Figures that now I can't find a suitable volunteer to attach and it spends its days collecting dust in the cupboard.... <sheesh>

Focus.

Greetings,

Right now my biggest one is domesticity. Back in the day when I clearly needed to go to bed I did not until everything was perfect. I'm so over that it isn't funny. I operate with the knowledge that there are only so many hours in the day and if something isn't completed I'll adjust my schedule and get it done the next day. I don't fret.

I think it's counterproductive and it makes me spastic and anal as a result. I don't have a list of things that weren't accomplished. Mine works in the reverse. I make note of my daily accomplishments. The positive reinforcement keeps me in good spirits and maintains an even temperament. Learning how to relax has made a huge difference on how I approach things overall.

Namaste,

~porcelaine

Preventing bruises that coworkers will see.

Venue - I can't entertain when my vanilla housemate is around. My workaround is to articulate this clearly in my profile, which has the added benefit of deterring married cheaters.

I agree Lilly...freeing up her time would be my first response. For example (sticking with the housework theme) if she was having a hard time getting stuff done due to time constraints from work & friends...then we'd figure something out. Most likely I'd take over laundry duties, or we'd set aside one particular evening as her "going out with friends" night...and I'd just deal with things that night, leaving her other nights free to concentrate on her duties. But then again, I'm not a very Domly Dom.

I would classify you as a practical Dom :)

A practical junk idea I got from Lady Pact (which I had no idea of)  plastic cling wrap sticks to painted finger nails.

I was going to make a silly reply, but decided instead to give a straight answer: Someone to whom the domination aspect is a major component of their dynamic.
