lisblanche -> resizing a gag? (5/5/2006 7:27:18 PM)

I have this great ball gag, the problem is I'm very small. Gags, restraints, etc. rarely fit me. I could have got it resized at the store I bought it at, but because the creepy guy was there that day (he makes me very uncomfortable, and that's saying something) I didn't get it done.

But I figure I'm crafty, I've done minor leather working in the past, I can do this. Any suggestions, tricks, or tips for punching a hole in the leather strap of a ball gag?

They used to make one smaller, think bdsmtoybox.com has the 1.5" over the 1.75"

If not I can look them up. IT may not seem much on the quarter inch but it does make them more comfortable.

If that still does not work,  May want to try bit gags and ring gags.  These are easier on the jaws.

Also, yes, you can resize one.  I've taken something like an icepick and drilled holes through the leather on belts and sometimes toys as well.  The ice pick works just take the hammer and pound through it.    But a set of these might be good to keep around:

if you have any friends that do re-enacting (SCA/ren) they're always a good bet - just ask them for a leather punch as most tend to have those kind of basic items in their kit for resizing belts/armour strapping etc.
Short of that you can actually buy a leather punch pretty cheaply (haberdashery store/ hardware/ eBay etc)- and unless you're planning on growing a bigger head it sounds like it might be a reasonable expenditure so you can neatly alter items as you buy them - save hacking at the with the prongs of a fork!!
you could, of course, pop back into the chop you bought it from on a day that Creepy Guy isn't in and get them to twiddle it right[:)]

Go to Michaels or Home Depot (or whatever's convenient) and get a rotary hole punch. They are $10-15 and a "must" for making nice round holes of several sizes.

I do NOT recommend you use a nail or a sharp pointed object as you may create the potential for the leather to tear."

I use a simple gag. a blue raquetball held in with duct tape or cloth... simple effective but tastes awful.

Hi Lis. I got smaller Soft Rubber Hallow Balls, and replaced my Big Old Hard Balls. Is used Sex Screws (Post screws to some) so I didn't have to use rivets. If you would like, e-mail me and I can send you before and after pictures, so you can see it isn't that hard.....like me.  LMCLAO

Most leather crafting stores and hardware stores have a leather punch.  It should be less than $10.00.  It will punch various sixes of holes.  Tell them you lost some weight and need to punch new holes in all your belts.

OOPS ! I thought the Ball was too big, and you had a little MOUTH...NEVERMIND. Yes, use a leather punch like John665623 suggrests. I am sorry for the mix up. Or if you happent to have some small drill bits laying around the house, you can turn them by hand, and slowely make new holes, without splitting or tearing the leather.

 I assume the ball diameter is to large. Carefully drill out the rivet on one end of the strap that is nearest to the ball. The drill size should fit into the rivets hollow. Once drilled unfold strap and remove ball, If new ball is of correct size it needs to be put onto the strap. Most likely it first needs to have a suitable slot for the strap to pass through. Locate the seam on the ball, using a gas stove heat up (dull red) and old butter knife. Once hot quickly plunge the knife into the seam. This may take several passes to pierce the opposite side. Be sure to leave windows open for ventilation and keep a pan of water handy to quench any fire. Once pierced pass the strap through the slot, fold over and align the original holes up. Use a rivet punch to assemble new rivet or use quick connector. If the strap is too small punch new holes. Hop this info helps.

The best answer is to use something round (punch, ice pick, drill bit, etc.) to make the hole.
