Brain -> Sen Sanders Sidesteps Question About If Obama Understands Whats Happening With The Middle Class (3/18/2011 10:40:25 PM)

March 18, 2011 MSNBC The ED Show

I didn’t know Wall Street speculation is the cause of the increase in food prices. I do know they are responsible for the increase in gas prices – it has nothing to do with supply and demand. I nominate Sen. Sanders for president.

How in the fuck would Sanders know what the President understands, and what he doesn't?

This is fucking moronic even for you.

Speculation determines the price of all commodities. That includes food, oil, gold, silver even the comparative price of currencies. To get it pretty close...in a letter to a colleague shortly before his death..."You know my feelings against setting up a federal banking system and turning paper into money. For if we do that, we will forever be...slave to the speculators." John Adams

The key is that to speculate on food or oil, any commodity, you are not buying any food or oil, you're buying a piece of paper. The underlying value of this paper (contract) is the negotiated price of a given quantity of any given commodity. Add coal, gasoline, natural gas, diesel, cotton, oranges...whatever. Recent over-speculation in paper called mortgage-backed-securities caused a $multi-trillion bailout.

These episodes of almost rampant speculation...proves Adams 'prescient.

Oh and Obama knows what's happening to the middle class and care only that he has little fear of being defeated when he again is buried in money with wall street and bankers in tow.

I think Sanders sees it in wrong way. It is not a speculation. With Bernanke-Obama flooding markets with "cheap" money, money is moving into material reality backed  assets like commodities. Paper assets are not safe under today's conditions. Of course they understand what they are doing. QE is designed to push up asset prices. Without it there would be no "economic growth". It is not possible to fully control where the money is moving, and this is one of the major problems with the economic approach taken.  Obama is not destroying the middle class.  His loyalties are simply with people way above-middle class level. The destruction is just a collateral damage. Sorry folks, keep up with hope.

One is not investing in an asset when buying a futures contract. There is absolutely no intention of actually taking delivery of that 10,000 bbs. I just 'bought.' I only own a piece of paper with that 'guarantee.' I will need to sell that paper and at a higher price before its term expires or, I lose when I do. Just don't be the last seller.

Also, I aim to make more by buying those 10,000 bbls. for $100,000 with a 10-1 margin. (borrowed) I profit at10 times my money.

Sorry Mr. Rogers we posted the same time and I did not see your post. Good to see people see things the same way.

This is an interesting problem. I have thought about it. I believe the contract is still backed by oil, you can use it for delivery if you want. In theory it is just a bigger fool problem, and the futures market supposedly just stabilizes the price at some reality based level.  In practice the market manipulation by big players builds bubbles. When money gets cheaper oil share still preserves you some wealth.

Thank you.

And again thank you.

Why these twits keep coming on here and saying "hooray for my side, boo for your side'" thinking thus that it actually adds anything to an issue, never understanding that they themselves are the biggest obstacle to anything remotely resembling progress, is beyond me.

Money from thin air. Watch thin air evaporate when they can't afford it anymore.
