So Bush liked the role of liberator, which isnt a bad thing at all (unless youre on the far left of course).

Obama on the other hand, one minute he is in bed with Saddam Hussein, the next minute he is playing the part of George W. Bush.

Adults the world over dont know what to think of all these crazy flip-flops, but people like you (members of his original fan club) will always find excuses to support him no matter what he does.

It won't be Sarah Palin, but it will be a republican. If this unemployment rate doesn't come down it will be a lock.

Unemployment U6, 15.9, lowest since april 2009.

U3, 8.9 again, lowest since April 2009.

Now, a drop from 17.4 to 15.9 may not seem like alot to you (and I prefer the U6 numbers, they are more realistic ), but to those 1.5 who are back to work, its a huge leap.

I wonder what oil crisis will do to the employment numbers in the coming months.

Does anyone foresee Obama removing his boot from the throat of the oil field workers in time to help thwart some seriously negative repercussions on the overall economy from skyrocketing fuel prices?

You seem confused. Ive always been a big proponent of working towards energy self sufficiency tazzy, opening up more oil fields vs. Obamas shutting them down and locking them out (and by extension the forced layoffs of so many oil industry workers).

Any president has to live with the effects of his decisions on every level including on the environment and on the economy, with Obamas decision to go to war against our domestic oil industry being a prime example of this.

Obama received a lot of campaign cash from BP, whatever the case.

But I never suggested that my argument is BP specific

Wasnt there a review of all the major oil drilling companies emergency plans? Didnt many of them not past "muster"?

The left (led by Obama at this point) isnt at war with domestic energy production in just the Gulf taz, and again my argument isnt BP specific.

I understand that, Sanity. My point is that if they were found lacking in the gulf, then they are lacking period. Better to err on the side of caution.

Im not going round in circles with you all day. My point is that if people freeze in the winter because the left wants to *use* the BP accident to further shut down our domestic energy production, if the economy crashes because of that, if the price of everything skyrockets due to increased transportation costs, and so on... its on the left come the election cycle.

And they will have to live with that.

Did they freeze last winter anymore than they have any other winter?

Im not sure what you are saying here. Are you looking into the future or speaking about the now?

Tazzy,

Don't hold a conversation with Sanity based on facts.

Drilling was suspended because EVERY company had the same plan in the case of a blowout.  Obviously as was demonstrated by BP that plan was not going to work.  The defense that an accident of this type would never happen doesn't wash anymore.  Guess which administration approved that idea?

When someone submitted another plan they were approved to start drilling.  Unfortunately for all the new plans use the process that finally worked for BP.  At least something good came of this.

http://www.cafemom.com/group/99198/forums/read/13492257/U_S_Approves_First_Deepwater_Drilling_Permit_In_Gulf_Of_Mexico_Since_BP_Oil_Spill

There was never a ban on drilling in the Gulf.  The ban was only on deep water drilling there was plenty of work still happening.

As usual Sanity is not really interested in facts.

Lets take a look at the OP article.

quote:

A molotov cocktail was launched in front of the US consulate in Rio de Janeiro late Friday in protest of the arrival of President Barack Obama

Thats quite an extreme protest.

quote:

“They came after us with clubs and tear gas and attacked,” according to protestor Thiago Hastenheiter. “They chased us through the streets and started firing rounds of rubber bullets.”

An equally extreme response. My opinion, an understandable one. If one cocktail is flying, you cannot be assured others are not about to follow.

quote:

PSTU says the protest is to bring “American imperialism” to the attention of the millions of Brazilians who will be watching and reading about Obama over the next two days. The protestors say that Obama wants to promote a free trade agreement, long dead between the two countries, and aired concern of a potential US attack on Libya despite a cease fire call by Gadhafi.

Another complaint was that Obama wanted Brazilian president from the Workers Party, Dilma Rousseff, to sell Brazil’s newfound oil to the US. One of the world’s largest deep sea oil discoveries was made by Brazilian oil company Petrobras in the so called Tupi oil field in the Santos Basin off the coast of Rio back in November of 2007.

The US is interested in importing oil from Petrobras, and Obama has said as much. But the US has no powers over Petrobras, which is majority owned by the Brazilian government and intent on servicing local oil needs first.

What happened to all the complaints over the 2 Billion dollar loan Obama was accused of making to Petrobras?

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052970203863204574346610120524166.html

Then again, Snopes did handle that efficiently.

http://www.snopes.com/politics/gasoline/braziloil.asp

Another case of the man being damned if he does, damned if he doesnt.

Well, you know, those laid-off oil workers could always go into futures speculating. Your gang has always been a proponent of deregulating that, too.

Then maybe you want to stop using the gulf as your example.
