Well, I'm not a Master, but to ask if anyone should be spanked in public to me is ludicrous. Keep it private. Don't drag other non consenting people into your own kink.

Besides, you know in most states that would get both of you arrested, right?

Depends on the punishment. There are many ways that could be used without raising any eyebrows of the unsuspecting onlookers.

the question was whether or not a slave should be PUNISHED in public...not spanked in public. There are many other, more creative and effective forms of punishment that could be used in a public setting...and knowing that the spanking will still be forthcoming upon arrival home...is also particularly effective. I would never consider spanking My sub in a typical vanilla setting, Burger King or Walmart, BUT I would have no problem taking him behind some barrier and having him bend over. Or grabbing him firmly by the balls and/or nipples and gaining his full attention, and verbally - though quietly - berating him.

Dear Demurejoy, Ladies and Gentlemen;

With slaves of mine, mere disappointment expressed, causes a slave to start beating themselves up much more a spanking in public could ever do.

Discipline/punishment needs to be at a good time where there is communication as to where the problem was/is. But, I would delay physical punishment until later. Delayed punishment is working on the mind and emotions, so by time physical discipline/punishment occurs the desired effects works. Not knowing when the punishment will take place can be rather sadistic. [Smiles]

Yes I beleave that punnishment should be immediate or as immediate as appropriate as to not cause undew embarassment to the Master.

Regarding spanking I do not beleave in using it as a punnishment but is reserved for pleasure for both participents, However I would have no problem spanking my slave in public if the situation warrented it.

Personally just the knowledge that she has been less then pleasing is usually enough for most corrections. The "Corner" has only been used perhaps twice.
As far as public "play" no I have no objection to it tho i am sure we get some strange looks at Safeway when she is kneeling

Its not whether the slave should be punished in public which should be asked. I think you should be asking what the publics views are. And since that isnt practical assume they are non consenting and respect their feelings.

I couldn't imagine my Sir punishing me in public. He would want to think it over, make sure I understood the punishment and carry it out. Plus, he wouldn't humilate me in public by punishing me.

Depending upon the severity of the infraction, it would be acombination of Niki and LadyHugs. Yes, you can get their attention fast and subtlely(to the vanillas), then let them stew with it a while(yes, they creates their own MF). Remember that punishment is correction not enjoyment. I do not like to punish my slave. If a slave/subbie has to be punished, it is a failure of communication/unstanding. It is only through communicating that all the what, where, when, hows and whys can be laid bare, so that the infraction is not repeated. The true meaning behind the infraction may or may not be intertwined.
Does He make you strip: have an attached leash and collar on you: make you wear ankle/wrist restraints: in public/publicly? If the answer is no to these, then why would you be spanked publicly? Which is different than a swat(hard or otherwise) on the arse?

I agree with most of you here...spanking; no, punishment; perhaps.

I see 'The General Public' as included in the need for 'consent'. It doesn't! Yup, spanking in public could get people arrested, drag in concerned citizens to the rescue, or at the very least make many people uncomfortable. I'm SSC... spanking belongs in private (or among like-minded individuals).

As far as punishment goes...I agree with Miki regarding various ways one can 'punish' another in public and still keep in consentual. <sighs> Oh, the many ways...

I think that if any punishment is done in public it should be ultra subtle...such as a stern look, a code word, or even a "excuse us for a moment" where the sub can be taken to a discreet location and talked to/spanked ect.

There is definitly no reason to do something like that in public in front of vanillas, children ect.

The only time I think a sub should be punished in public is if that public consists of 100% kinky folk (ie at a private party or gathering where that has been previously discussed by dom/mes attending) in order to ensure that no one will be offended.

I was spanked once in front of another dom and it was one of the most humiliating and effective things ever done to me.

"spanking" does not equal "punishment."

Depends on the punishment. If I scold them and tell them to be silent the rest of the day, that's public but I think acceptable.

I also think swats on the butt are ok if they are lighthearted and swift. An actual pulling OTK long loud drama thing is not appropriate in general public.

So, depends on what you're doing.
