For several reasons, one is to make japan doing a treasury sell off not worth it. It also makes their goods alot more reasonable, and they can sell their way out of part of the problem.

At this point, WHAT could they possibly sell?  The place is a nuclear wasteland.   No one will want to live there.   This nuke mess is way more serious then you realize.

The infrastructure is toast.   Egypt would be better at this point...

I don't see Buffett's remarks as poorly timed for 2 reasons.

1: As stated above, all he is doing is saying there is a money-making opportunity.

2: The rebuilding in Japan is going to cost tens of billions. Where the hell will a lot of that money come from? INVESTORS silly. No investors = no money = no rebuilding.

Why do I feel like I am witnessing an autopsy, the corpse surrounded by body organ brokers arguing over who gets the best bits for the least $?

That's a good way to describe it !

Is that what our society has become, we only help people in need if we can get something from it.

The financiers that recently brought the world to it's knees did it for greed, everyone despises them, but lo and behold it's not just the financiers at it, for people have learned the ways of greed themselves, they are therefore no better.
