Good ol' Warren Buffet, darling of the left.

Fair warning though, if youre allergic to reality hit the "back" button now because this is a Breitbart link:

quote:

Buffett says Japan quake a 'buying opportunity'

US billionnaire investor Warren Buffett said Monday that a massive natural disaster would not hamper the future of the Japanese economy and could prompt a new bout of stock buying.

"I'm not looking at Japan's economic future differently from 10 days ago... extraordinary events offer (a) buying opportunity," he told reporters.

Buffett, the chairman of investment firm Berkshire Hathaway, was visiting South Korea to attend a ground-breaking ceremony for a local unit of Israel's Iscar Metalworking Companies, 80 percent owned by Berkshire Hathaway.

The Japanese market is down a lot. Of course this is an ideal time to invest in Japan.

Why would it be wrong to state a plain fact?

People better start investing in Japan, or they will start cashing in their US Treasuries, something that would not bode well for us.

Darlings of the right should think about that, although I understand that most of them are in the death grips of profound innumeracy.

Take information from multiple independent sources. Analyze it yourself and make an independent decision.

What a concept.

by the way, I especially agree that investing in Japan is a good idea now. Especially in construction industries and, to a smaller extent, shipbuilding.

The Pacific Northwest lumber industry is also a good place to make some $ as most of that feeds Japan.

Do you have a credible citation for that?

Actually Ron,I can recall popeye's post....the erstwhile champion of the working man,the one who tirelessly denounces the emergence of the global economy....did in fact post a blueprint for profiteering off the tragedy in Japan.
Seems Popeye can imagine a use for furriners after all

Buffett's remarks are poorly timed! But I expect such careless remarks to be made by people like Buffett who only think of money.

How are they poorly timed?  What exactly is dispicable about them?

Careless?

Just because it's not all sentimental and mushy, doesn't make it careless.

Buffett is correct and I doubt Japan's market will complain about investors.

"poorly timed"...Buffet is a wildly successful investor....his opinion is sought on that basis and on that basis alone(no one asks Buffet what he thinks of the Yankees prospects in the AL east,as he has no expertise in that sphere)as to the timing...what the fuck, again he is a financial investor and as such is merely identifying and pointing out an investment opportunity.
Timing ,in this case, is everything....as an investor his timing seems to be pretty damm good....if one measures success by the bottom line.Which by the way is how success is measured in his field of expertise.

I don't see Buffett's remarks as poorly timed for 2 reasons.

1: As stated above, all he is doing is saying there is a money-making opportunity.

2: The rebuilding in Japan is going to cost tens of billions. Where the hell will a lot of that money come from? INVESTORS silly. No investors = no money = no rebuilding.

Or they cash in US Treasuries, it is all a matter of supply and demand, and market forces.

I'm glad you pointed that out, because after reading this zinger ...

quote:

Good ol' Warren Buffet, darling of the left.

i was laughing too hard to continue, so missed out on the rest of it.

Anywise ...

Buffet's intended audience with those remarks was the general investment community, and the intention was to downplay what might be perceived as undue uncertainty and risk -to that group-, that very skittish and easily spooked breed known as foreign investors, so as to not have those people standing there with all that money and doing nothing, and to keep fund managers from dumping Japanese stocks at the worst time.

Period.

For several reasons, one is to make japan doing a treasury sell off not worth it. It also makes their goods alot more reasonable, and they can sell their way out of part of the problem.

Why now would anyone want to invest in Japan, is it for the monetary return, or is it to help the people of Japan ? Are you in it for the dollars you can receive or the help your money can give to the Japanese people?

If the latter, then give money to the various appeals, or is it, your money given, must yield money in return for yourselves.
