You just started a thread praising their viewpoints.

Uh...........isn't that what your whole thread is about?

Or are you going to pretend that you were just presenting some objective opinions?

Really? Just his "stance" on nuclear disarmament?

I dont suppose you have any documentation of that.

Since he was awarded the prize for his stance on nuclear disarmament, yes, I think he should keep it. As far as I know he hasn't dropped a nuke on anyone nor does he intend to do so and Tomahawks are not nuclear.

Whats weird is, she often likes to jump into the political fray herself.

She just opposes the topic, is my guess.

Well, who knows?

He never asked for it in the first place.

I, honestly, don't think he deserved it.

As for the bombing. All he is trying to do is succeed where Reagan failed. KILL the crazy SOB. (Indirectly of course)

The Nobel Peace Prize for 2009
The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided that the Nobel Peace Prize for 2009 is to be awarded to President Barack Obama for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples. The Committee has attached special importance to Obama's vision of and work for a world without nuclear weapons.

Obama has as President created a new climate in international politics. Multilateral diplomacy has regained a central position, with emphasis on the role that the United Nations and other international institutions can play. Dialogue and negotiations are preferred as instruments for resolving even the most difficult international conflicts. The vision of a world free from nuclear arms has powerfully stimulated disarmament and arms control negotiations. Thanks to Obama's initiative, the USA is now playing a more constructive role in meeting the great climatic challenges the world is confronting. Democracy and human rights are to be strengthened.

Only very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world's attention and given its people hope for a better future. His diplomacy is founded in the concept that those who are to lead the world must do so on the basis of values and attitudes that are shared by the majority of the world's population.

For 108 years, the Norwegian Nobel Committee has sought to stimulate precisely that international policy and those attitudes for which Obama is now the world's leading spokesman. The Committee endorses Obama's appeal that "Now is the time for all of us to take our share of responsibility for a global response to global challenges."

This is why he was given the Prize.

You are welcome, but I tend to agree with Bita on why he was given the award.

I agree here, the stated purpose is one thing but he hadnt done anything. In my ever so humble opinion it was purely political and showed extremely poor judgment on the part of the Nobel Committee.

I love how wars are always justified by the need to kill some evil foreign leader, when the one thing certain about war is that the leader of the country you are fighting will be the very last person who gets killed, if he does at all. I remember the first days of the Iraq war bombing, when they pulled a 12 year old girl out of the rubble of one of Saddam's palace complexes. But hey, it's all cool, because we're trying to "get" Saddam, and he's evil n' all.

Also, Qaddafi is crazy like a fox.

please keep this crap in P&R. bleh.

no, obama should not give it back because, as BitaTrouble said, he was awarded the prize for his position on nuclear disarmament. what's happening in Libya doesn't involve nukes, so yeah - your premise is incorrect.

p.s. mnottertail gets points for this

I was more perturbed that he even accepted it.

I think the damage is permanent to the Nobel grid---  their pronouncements have no meaning any more---  assuming they ever did.

no, the petty squabbling and "omgz i'm so much smarter than u cuz i voted for X" and the snarkiness/bitchiness are called "crap."
i pay attention to current events, read newspapers/magazines/journals, watch news, form my own opinions, etc. i just don't feel the need to argue about it with a bunch of snarky people online. the fact that i don't does not translate into "you're a bad person because you don't care about events that affect you and me."
sheesh
you guys have a whole section to yourselves for this.
just keep it there.

Lilly, I dont often find myself disagreeing with you. But I have seen just as much squabbling and fighting in other sections as I have seen on the P&R boards

And this, folks, is exactly why I no longer hang out in P&R.

I am making a big effort to extradite myself from the fighting on the P&R boards because I wish to learn. Perhaps if more of the calm and interested crowd returned, and ignored the flame wars, it just might clean up.
