Hello-  we need another fat thread!    I seen on TV - some show that talked about obese cats.  Some tips--  so then I start analyzing my cat- and her weight might be creeping up.   I suspect that she sees me eat then wants to eat as she wont eat when I am not home.  In the show- he said a cat should eat 1/2 cup of dry food a day.  And weight 10-15 lbs.

So I cut back on my cats food and she does not like it one bit=- she becomes a pain in the azz- .... I dont want to get her used to cues that just because she is awnery will mean she gets fed....

How do you control the weight of your cherished cat?

This is a concern also as she loves to crawl on me-  a 40 lb cat jumping on me wont suit. Sometimes I wake up at night and she is perched on me.

fortunately, my kids are self regulating.  They nibble the dry food during the course of the day/night.  It usually takes them a 24 hr span to eat enough to see the bottom of the bowls with about 3/4 cup, freshly filled, in both bowls.

They're both heavy, but they're both BIG (length, height).  Amos may have a little extra weight, but not so much to be obese.

My cat says to tell you all that she's very happy with her size, and she thinks that those skinny bitches are just as unhealthy as the BBC's.

Quigley is the fattest cat I have ever had.

What do I do about it? Not a god damned thing. I've given up. He is destined to be a porker. He slims down a little in the summer when he is outside more, he gets rounder in the winter.

Sophie (my big earred, 12#, little redheaded dominatrix) tries to get him to work out. Oh hell, she beats him up! Nala, the 80+# GSD tries to 'motivate' him. All he does is flop on the floor and let them maul him. He will be a plushy till the day he dies.

Mine, too

Having 5 cats at present I stopped to bother putting food in a bowl...they would let me do that all the time

So I started last year or 2 years ago to cut the dry food box open on the side (the large side like the back or front side of that box) and put that down...it lasts for a few days...Now...to be honest I never checked for how many days it lasts and they do get canned food as well as they enjoy both and give me a headache when I dare to only give them dry food....but I will get back to you next week through how much they go when I open the next dry food package and will also add the tins to let you know.

Curry my ginger cat is heavy, but normal sized, neither slim nor heavy. he has awfully strong muscles....its incredible how he has no issues to be let go rappidly if he doesnt want to stay near me...

Spicy is a gentle giant and the giant is only based on his physical size not on weight. He isnt as strong muscled as curry it appears to me and could do with a lil bit more weight but he isnt too skinny either so he is ok.

Summer is fine...showing off her preggy tummy...she was awfully skin the weeks after birth and I was glad when she finally got some weight on.

Pepper is my cat which worries me as she is a fussy eater...I realised in previous flat that she is more likely to eat if I feed her in the lounge than in the kitchen as she does not like to eat on her own in that room...so to get her more weight on my cat food is in the lounge...but she is quite slim...

Apart from food my boys go outside a lot so they also burn a lot.

I have two cats, the one who eats only cat food kibble is on the hefty side. The one who eats canned food, snacks and treats is thin as a rail. But then he's the nervy one.

It's hard to limit dry cat food when you have two cats to feed, and one who needs to be encouraged to eat his kibble.

The hefty one used to be much thinner when he was still allowed to go outside. We got his as a stray, so he was an indoor/outdoor cat for awhile until we trained him to remain indoors.

The lil skinny one never goes out except to visit the vet or go to a friends house when we go out of town. He is an entirely indoor cat, which begs the question of what he has to be nervy about, but it's just his nature.

Unless the vet says the cat needs to lose weight, I wouldn't worry. But you could look for lower calorie food instead of cutting down the amount. More dry and less canned food. My dad's cat is the skinniest thing around, there's always food and she never eats much at all.

Little Misty is definitely not overweight. She weighs only 5 lb., but according to my vet, is not underweight because she's so tiny.

Angel is fuller-figured and weighs in at 11 lb. Her nickname is "Dumpling" because she's white and a little pudgy. According to the TV program, she wouldn't be considered overweight, though, because she's in the 10-15 lb. range. My vet didn't say anything one way or other at her last visit. Though she denies it, I think my neighbor slips her table scraps on the sly.

Lol, my Abba, the house Domme weighs 17.9lbs, the vet says she also grew 2 1/2 inches since last well kitty visit, he would like to see her lose 2 lbs. I am emailing him Windchymes answer to that in the morning!

My oldest boy Oranges weighs 16.5 lbs but he just recently had a tapeworm, now clear, I expect he'll gain some weight now. Then there is the baby, BitBit, His last visit he weighed a hefty 9.5 but I've weighed him at home and he is up over 12lbs.

I like round healthy cats, the vet says they are all healthy and I know they are happy, so thhppptttt to folks who do not like round cats, round is a shape too damnit!

My Boo is the BBC of the bunch, and it's genetic....he doesn't eat alot, mostly dry food, and his brother is huge but trim.  KB has lost weight, and Squeaks is still a growing young lady.

KB probably goes about 5 lbs now, Squeaks, Smooch and Boo about 12-15 lbs.  I feed canned food a couple of times a day and leave dry down for them to graze on.  It takes about 3 weeks to go thru a 7 lb bag of food.
