iTunes is peddling an anti gay app on the iPhone and possibly other apple platforms taht is designed to "cure" non heterosexual sexualities.

I believe that this may be illegal in the UK under hate crime laws, and I am aware of a discussion here:

So I wanted to publicise it further and make others aware and give folk an opportunity to sign the petition against it, which you can find here:

Apple removed the app from sale.

And no, it wasn't illegal under UK law.

They have an app that makes you un-gay? what does it do, show you little vulvas in 1024 different colors?

OK I am aware it has now been withdrawn, however, under the UK laws about distributing material designed to inspire hatred of minorities, genders, or racial groups, it is, as far as I understand it, and offence to distribute such material in any medium, including "Apps" for iPhones etc.

It would be a good idea to study the mechanism of the law before attempting to pontificate on it. Any legal challenge would have taken ages, and eventually have failed. Apple removed it because they're worried about their image and their sales, not because they have any sympathy for the gay cause.

I find it entertaining that those who would stand against such things are guilty themselves of precisely the same blind, unthinking hatred they rightly despise in others. No thought, only blind obeisance to a cause.

Perhaps with your obviously superior legal knowledge you could quote us chapter and verse as to why distributing an app in support of Exodus International, the notorious "ex-gay" organization, is not a breach of the laws against promoting anti gay propaganda? Or pehaps you can show how that is legally permitted and doesn't breach the public order act, the HRA, and others. Do please enlighten me. I do not pretend to be a lawyer, but we do have laws here about hate crime. Perhaps you could explain the details.

And I do not recall blindly hating anyone in my posts. It is clearly obvious that Apple had been duped by the people who created the app, or just dozy about quality control.

But if the distributors were prosecuted with a nominal fine or a warning, this might make them much more wary of being duped by such people in the future, which would do us all some good in my opinion.

My experience is that people who bump either the font size of their posts, or stick them in bold, generally have issues that can't easily be fixed, and certainly not by me. Try harnessing that effort and focussing on researching why any legal challenge would have been doomed.

It's a total storm in a teacup. Your "research" before trying to whip up a lynch mob was so lame that you didn't even know it'd already been dealt with. It was a lame app that broached Apple's T&Cs, so it got binned. Apple don't care about the gay dollar any more than they do anyone else's dollar. Crusade totally unnecessary.

Anyway, enough. You're boring the hell out of me, so I'll depart your poorly researched, whiny little thread. Best of luck fighting those non-existent dragons/field mice.

Actually the font size wouldn't change and the random bold came from a few words copied and pasted and after several attempts wouldn't go away. I really couldn't be bothered to paste it all into wordpad and back again to resolve it. If you are touchy about that, it is your problem not mine.

The issue of the APP does in my opinion have importance, regardless of the fact that I have now learnt that apple in fact removed it on the 14th, though the web site I quoted only posted it's removal today.

This issue is not whether the app is still there, it is about one of the world's largest corporations, either by accident or lack of care, whatever, allowing and indeed actively endorsing, with a 4+ rating and flagged suitable for minors, dangerous material promoting hatred of gay and transsexual people to be distributed.

This time the bold was intentional. Furthermore, there is some discussion on some of the other forums about the possibility of relatives of gay people who committed suicide since getting the app suing apple for their irrisponsibility in allowing it to be sold. This, I hasten to add, is in the US, not the UK, where such a lawsuit would be very hard to persue for various reasons.
