Looks like CNN's coverage of international events is winning over Fox, with MSNBC trailing in third (they're sticking to their standard programming).

"The disparity has been most noticeable during the last two weekends, when CNN has attracted huge audiences with continuing coverage of the international crises, beating even Fox News, the perennial leader among the news channels. Meanwhile MSNBC, sticking to a weekend lineup of recorded programs largely about problems in prisons, attracted only about a third as many viewers as CNN.

In prime time Saturday, CNN averaged 678,000 viewers among the audience most desired by news advertisers, ages 25 to 54. MSNBC averaged 254,000, while Fox News drew 353,000. On Sunday, CNN averaged 442,000 viewers; MSNBC, 298,000; and Fox News, 344,000.

Now CNN’s advantage has begun to carry over into weeknights. For more than two years, MSNBC has consistently beaten CNN in prime time on weeknights. But for March, CNN has moved ahead from 8 to 11 p.m., beating MSNBC in every hour among the 25-to-54 audience."

Those are primetime numbers and FNC is rarely if ever a leader in 25-54 on weekends in primetime. The disparity that weekend was wider than normal, but CNN's lineup is news at 8 and 10, while FNCs is soft programming, Huckabee, Jeannine Piro, Geraldo. Nothing for the libs to celebrate in these numbers.

I always attributed FOX's numbers to the fact that almost half the country is of below average intelligence and FOX is the only place they go to.

Ain't it grand how competition forces companies to change, do things in better ways, and offer a product people want?

Two words...WHO CARES...there is no real news reporting anymore.  To call the shit that is on the tube today "NEWS" is an insult to the great reporter/anchors of yore.  Men like Howard K Smith, David Brinkley, Walter Cronkite, Chet Huntley, and the late great Edward R Murrow.

TV news now is more about fucking ratings than actual reporting.  You want real reporting, try reading your local newspaper, and several papers from other regions.  You can not get a complete picture of a national/international story from just one paper any more.  You have to piece together information from several different sources as every newspaper is going to slant the news to fit that specific region.

Absolutely.  With the lib audience spread around among 3 cable channels, 3 alphabet channels, and PBS and the conservative viewers stuck with the views of just one corporatist, you guys, of all people, should know just how much the lack of competition sucks.

Bang On

But, the same can be done by viewing various trusted tv news outlets like CNN, BBC, AL JAZEERA, RT and SKY, the interest being in that selection there is American, Russian, British and Arab, they all have different persepectives, but a clear line of news can be discerned through them.

FOX for an occaisional overseas viewer comes across as a rabble rousing outfit, their style I perceive as offensive and liken then to the UK red top rag, The Sun

But according to a recent poll FOX is the most popular and most trusted TV news outlet in America;

Dean Denham, president of Public Policy Polling, the North Carolina-based survey firm that carried out the poll, said the Fox strategy had been brilliant commercially but its implications were troubling. "That people see the network as trustworthy is worrying in terms of the future of reasoned debate in America. A lie screamed loudly will trump a truth spoken quietly," he said.

What is the common factor between The Sun 'news paper' and FOX, well, none other than the fact that Rupert Murdoch owns them both, does anyone see the agenda ?

Naaah, most of my time is spent on the TLC/DSC/NGT, etc. channels!
Oh yeah, I'm fond of BBCAmerica, and misc audio news like BBC, Marketplace, The World, etc.

Except that you and the other conservatives constantly point to FOX News ratings as some type of proof of the superiority of conservative views.

Yet, you are able to find a way to dismiss this.

It's sort of sad in a way.

WTF are you ranting about now? FOX news ratings are achieved from a broad audience, not just conservatives, and they attract that broad audience because they present alternative views. Ratings have never been used by me, certainly, and probably nobody else as proof of anything. Conservative views are superior because they actually work in the real world.

The only thing that ws dismissed is the apparent celebration of something that never happened..CNN didnt overtake the "perennial leader" in the weekend prime time 25-54 demographic...FNC was never the leader there because it doesnt have news programming there.

Cable news is a fraction of the network news, so how a broad an audience is it?  Fox tends towards a loyal audience; CNN tends to get a ton of people when there are large breaking news stories.  But good ol' broadcast news is the winner.  You know.  That evil, liberal, mainstream stuff.

Most people get there news from talk radio (Jesus, what a great tribute to American society).  Much of that programming is balls-to-the-walls bullshit. Yes, I've listened.  I've had my mom call and ask if "so and so was true" (not!)  I've even read Rush Limbaugh's transcripts on usenet (someone's got way too much time on their hands to transcibe any broadcast, IMHO).  If the hosts are challenged on accuracy, they simply say that it's "entertainment".  If they aren't taken seriously, suddenly they are "journalists".

Keep in mind, Outh, that Fox has all the necessary infrastructure in place to launch a network national news program any time they feel like it.
