Just seemed so unnecessary to tweak folks that way....perhaps ,if the voters got the same impression we seem to have gotten, upon hearing those comments it did indeed effect his vote total. Not a bright move at all.

Of course not a bright move any more than baiting Simon used to be. I think contestants do it for more camera time.

Back to Pia...there are thousands of singers who can belt out ballad after ballad. To be a star, one needs to be able to grab viewers. Pia couldn't do it. She had nothing to grab people with. It seemed she thought she was the next Celine even without the judges saying so. Part of this IS about popularity. It seems as though America doesn't want someone who thinks they have it in the bag. They want someone new and unique, and Pia was niether. She reminded me of a pageant contestant. I'm surprised when she hit the bottom she didn't say, "it's ok. I just want world piece."

I read she needed medics to help her from the stage after being voted off. To me that speaks volumes about her thinking she had the contest sewn up.

I think you're exactly right, Lady, I think America is "Mariah, Whitney, Celine'd" out. Pia was pretty, she could belt, but it's been done.....

I realllly didn't like Casey's perfomance tonight. I know the judges were all over it, but it was painful to listen to, IMO.
Haley probably deserves to go home , I was expecting to be blown away after last weeks's performance but it was pretty flat.

Loved Casey's Jazz number,Haley might not survive that performance(thats as far as I have gotten,I never watch anything live anymore....lol).Jimmy the mentor just told off Jacob over that silly challenge to America.I loved hearing it 'cause it echoed everything I felt when the kid said that shit.

Okay,it has become obvious,to me at least, that Stefano has made a visit to that famous Crossroads...the one where on sells his soul to the devil for a shot at fame.He has whistled past the graveyard once again...this time it was Paul who went a'packin.Something or some force I don't quite understand is at play here.Certainly he is talented, certainly he can sing but consistently those who IMO have more talent.are better singer/performers go home and he stays.
Oh well...the beat goes on.

Yeah, I don't get the whole Stefano thang either, mike. It's all very Sanjaya-esque to me.

Based strictly on last nights performance I would say Haley. lol.. I think I did say that. But I'm glad she stayed. Her duet with Casey was great tonight. Paul was one of my fave's. I liked his voice, but I think I liked his vibe more. Besides..... visually: he's my kinda guy.

I'm still pulling for my Tourette's Rocker to win it all, but he has some strong competition.

At the conclusion of last nights show I thought Haley was in trouble....not happy about it(lets face it she is easy on the eyes..and the woman are dropping like flies...lol)but I thought "Call Me" was weak, even lame. But once it got down to Stefano or Paul...I figured Stefano had gone to the well once too often....once again I was wrong.Every once in awhile I have to remind myself it is much more a popularity show than any true measure of talent....hell even talent is a subjective thing....but this voting lends itself completely to popularity based on nothing more than whose "fans" get on the phones.

mike, just wanted to say that, whether I agree with you or not on the results (and I usually do) I really enjoy reading what you write here, it's really "colorful"! :) You could write an entertainment column....

Personnaly, I didn't care if Paul or Stefano went home. Not fond of either of them. Haley is on borrowed time, and if Jacob keeps running his mouth, he should go soon. The popularity part will keep him around because he is the only black contestant left. Not racist, but that's how Ruben won over Clay. Sorry but record sales and career prove the winner on that one.

Casey is unique and that should take him to the top two. James is very good, great stage personality and his back story with the turettes should carry him to the top two. That other girl is so memorable I can't even recall her name, but she seems to be riding under the radar.

I watched Pia's interview with Ellen and she was boring there, too. Heard she just dumped her long time boyfriend for "Dancing With The Stars" huunk, Mark Ballis. It took her 5 auditions to make it on the show, easy to see why. Looks like she will do what's necessary to extend her 15 minutes.

Yeah, Scotty's next to go, he's just riding along on his mellow, deep-voiced adorableness. It's getting old. And boring. I'm tired of Jacob, too. Stefano is keeping himself alive, somehow.

My personal pick is Haley. I know that's not the popular opinion, but I really like her and her voice. I think if the pressure was off, she'd really be kicking some ass. That's just me though.....though I appreciate their talent and ability, James and Casey's styles just aren't my thing. Early on, I really loved Casey's uniqueness and musicianship, but the direction he's going with music and vocals just....aren't my thing. And if I was a hard rocker, yeah, James would be the shit, no doubt, lol. But I like Haley.

I think Scotty will be in the bottom tonight, with Jacob and possibly that other girl. Again, she is so memorable I can't remember her name. Jacob is probably going to go over Scotty because of his attitude lately. I read last night he removed his earpiece and then complained of technical difficulty. I think he knows he is out of his element on Idol. He can't croon his way through with all mellow songs.

I will say again that the top two will be James Urban and Casey Abrams. If Casey wins, he will be like Taylor Hicks, a year from now he will drift into obscurity. James on the other hand, win or lose, will find himself working with classic artists, like Aerosmith of course, and getting great direction for his future. Win or lose, we will see James in the future.

Haley is ok, she just doesn't have that extra "something" that will propel her to stardom. Kind of like Katheryn McPhee.

I know I'm on the Pia hate train, but she looked uncomfortable even during last night's group performance of "So What." She looked totally lost to me, as though she was just waiting for her cue to hit the long high notes. I do not see a future for her other than being like Vienna (Bachelor ex) trying to glom onto whoever she can to be noticed. Shit even her new boyfriend, Mark Ballis, doesn't list her as his "favorite." Guess he likes her other "talents" better.

I'm afraid to read the two preceding post's ,I've just watched the first performance...mbmb called it boring...she was right.Scotty looked as if he was shooting for a caricature of himself....the pride of Garner NC(one town over from me in NC) laid an egg.....perhaps he should stop reading his own press.
