ORIGINAL: Politesub53 Iso, do you feel it would have been okay to let Ghadaffi "show no mercy" ( His words ) to a city of 250,000 people then ? I certainly dont. You also havent got a clue as to what goals Mike and I share, more so since I dont even know Mikes goals. I think its morally reprehensible for Obama to spend any tax payer money policing the world unless the USA is facing an imminent threat. A UN Mandate does not legally allow the President to ignore his Constitutional responsibilities. Obama is attempting to intervene on behalf of armed Muslim Rebels in Libya, I don't buy the city of 250,000 people pretext. There is no actual or imminent threat to the US in Libya. I would rather have seen US intervention in the Congo first. Here's a quote from Obama when he was a Junior Senator: "The President does not have power under the Constitution to unilaterally authorize a military attack in a situation that does not involve stopping an actual or imminent threat to the nation. As Commander-in-Chief, the President does have a duty to protect and defend the United States. In instances of self-defense, the President would be within his constitutional authority to act before advising Congress or seeking its consent. History has shown us time and again, however, that military action is most successful when it is authorized and supported by the Legislative branch. It is always preferable to have the informed consent of Congress prior to any military action."
