slvemike4u -> RE: Michelle Obame to give commencement speech (3/25/2011 10:19:50 PM)

TheHeretic -> RE: Michelle Obame to give commencement speech (3/25/2011 10:20:58 PM)

slvemike4u -> RE: Michelle Obame to give commencement speech (3/25/2011 10:44:51 PM)

LOL,understood Rich, but you did bring up an interesting point...why Iowa,Obama probably is not going to be facing much of a nomination battle....was Iowa selected, out of the many invitations she received, based on its primary prominence ?
I've moved on from the other issue Rich,no worries [:)]

I don't know if it was political considerations, or just because it fit her schedule and interests.

And, maybe because it was the least political choice?

slvemike4u -> RE: Michelle Obame to give commencement speech (3/25/2011 11:03:13 PM)

Well were he not an incumbent, all but assured his parties nomination anything at all to do with Iowa would be seen to have poliitical implications..but things being as they are...perhaps it is nothing more than scheduling and such.
One thing though...most of these ceremonies take place at the same time of the year....so I still scratch my head and say why Iowa...rather than USC or Columbia( just for arguments sake,I have no knowledge she was invited to either of those schools)

FirmhandKY -> RE: Michelle Obame to give commencement speech (3/25/2011 11:13:27 PM)

Has she said why, herself?

slvemike4u -> RE: Michelle Obame to give commencement speech (3/25/2011 11:24:39 PM)

Not that I know of....all I have was the CNN report.I'm sure there will be some speculation ,and perhaps a statement from her office,it being Iowa this is an inevitable conversation.
Or maybe I'm just too cynical...and it means nothing.
It's 2:30 on the east coast....goodnight all :-)

TheHeretic -> RE: Michelle Obame to give commencement speech (3/25/2011 11:40:05 PM)

Sleep well.

The politics will still be here.

slvemike4u -> RE: Michelle Obame to give commencement speech (3/25/2011 11:43:16 PM)

And it will always be so,the politics of course.....the sleep gets harder the older you get [:)]

popeye1250 -> RE: Michelle Obame to give commencement speech (3/26/2011 1:05:25 AM)

If Obama wants to run again (Please! Please!) he has no choice in the matter of having to show his birth certificate now.
I think the number of states that have passed laws requiring all candidates to furnish copies of their birth certificates is up to 12 or 14 now.
Or, he can just not run in those states.

On a 5-3 vote Monday, the Senate Judiciary Committee defeated SB 1526 which would let Arizona impose its own requirements on what someone needs to prove before being on the ballot in the state. Three Republicans voted with the two Democrats on the panel to kill the plan offered by Sen. Ron Gould, R-Lake Havasu City.

Virtually identical legislation was introduced in the House in the form of HB 2544. But that measure has never gotten a hearing.

”The bill has undergone some change since it was originally introduced. We have a substitute that’s drawn up, but I’ll just tell you basically, as originally introduced, the bill would require that a presidential or vice presidential candidate submit an affidavit showing that he or she meets the requirements of natural-born citizenship, age and residency – 14 years residency in the United States…..

“The bill also, as to the affidavit, originally included some language…that would ask that the candidate swear to the fact that he or she had never held dual citizenship or multiple citizenship and that the candidate had only had allegiance to the United States of America….

“Now, that has changed with the substitute…..Issues have been raised. A lot of people are saying it’s a political bill. So in order to allay concerns about the bill’s potential political nature, I have proposed a substitute, which would move the effective date of this bill to July 1 of 2013.

“And that makes it clear that President Obama would not be subject to the requirements of the bill. Yet we would still be able to get into law some definite means of enforcing the Article 2 Section 1 requirement.

“The substitute would also remove the dual citizenship issue, multiple citizenship….”

I dont believe a single state has passed any laws regarding this issue yet, pops.

You're guess is too high by 12 or 14.

Anyway Obama has made public a legal birth certificate and any state that tries to say otherwise runs into the full faith clause and at least one other federal law.

No Hawaii official has publically verfied the authenticity of Obama's Hawaii "Certification of Live Birth" which, even if it is authentic, the Department of Hawaii Home Lands wouldn't accept as prima-facie evidence that Obama is a native born Hawaiian.

The recently elected Democratic Governor of Hawaii and self-proclaimed friend of Obama's parents couldn't find Obama's "vital records" even after he promised he was going to do precisely that in order to put an end to this matter once and for all. Note that the Governor didn't say he found them but couldn't make them public due to Hawaii law but, rather, that he COULDN'T FIND THEM!

In any case, Obama's birth certificate is irrelevant. What is revelent is Obama's own words...that his father was a British subject and Kenyan citizen, and passed same on to him at birth. That makes Obama a dual-citizen at best...and there's no way in hell a dual-citizen can be a "natural born Citizen" of any country.

Deny and/or obfuscate the issue all you want.

Wrong

"There have been numerous requests for Sen. Barack Hussein Obama’s official birth certificate. State law (Hawai‘i Revised Statutes §338-18) prohibits the release of a certified birth certificate to persons who do not have a tangible interest in the vital record," DOH Director Dr. Chiyome Fukino said.

Fukino said she and the registrar of vital statistics, Alvin Onaka, have personally verified that the health department holds Obama's original birth certificate.

"Therefore, I as Director of Health for the State of Hawai‘i, along with the Registrar of Vital Statistics who has statutory authority to oversee and maintain these type of vital records, have personally seen and verified that the Hawai‘i State Department of Health has Sen. Obama’s original birth certificate on record in accordance with state policies and procedures," Fukino said.

jim.....I do believe that actual documents are more legal than someones words told to them by family
If it were anywhere even close to the truth or had any factual evidence to decide otherwise he would have been forced out three years ago.
Quit ya bitchin, you lost, get over it

slvemike4u -> RE: Michelle Obame to give commencement speech (3/26/2011 6:52:57 PM)

Do you really expect racistjim to..."Quit ya bitchin, you lost, get over it ".There is a man of color occupying the Oval Office....whatever is a man of Jim's stripe to do but rail and moan, hanging his hat on any flimsy and tenuous objection to his election.
You do not expect him to stand up and declare that the fact is, that in his eyes, the only purpose a black man should have in that office is to serve the coffee....do you?
