Dogs go for the crotch as he needs to know the sex of any person he sees.  But do cats do this at all?   Or do cats have another way of knowing?  Or maybe they dont care?

Help.  I need to know and fast.  I do-- I DOOOOOOOOOOO  ;-0

Cats are interested in what you smell like, but they care more about hands, feet, and your mouth.
They want to know if you are friend or foe before they care if you're in heat or not.

cats only care about getting a meal.

You are nothing to them but the thing that opens their tin of cat food.

Yep. I have a cat I rescued from the streets. In her previous life, a guy must have really done some damage to her because males of any age freak her out.
Like JS, she is just fine with gals, but if a man comes close, she is off to hide behind the couch like a streak of greased lightning :-)

That makes sense.   Cats seem to zero in on WHO likes cats- where as dogs zero in on who is IN FEAR.

I'm not sure how she knew, but I used to have a cat named Amanda (may she RIP) that hated males and usually liked females. The veterinary clinic I go to has both male and female vets and vet techs. When a male vet or vet tech approached her, she was quite hostile. When a female vet or vet tech approached her, she was fine.

At home, she would not come out when any males were present. Unless they sought her out, there was not a problem. One of my ex-subs opened the linen closet, where she had gone to avoid him, and she hissed loudly at him. When my dad visited, he felt the need to track down where the cat was all the time (including in the middle of the night when I was sleeping) and she always hissed loudly. She was so stressed by one of my Dad's week-long visits that she started biting sections of her fur out. Never a problem with females in the house.

The two I have now seem to like everyone.

Your cats are picking up on all of your lesbo tendencies.

I once had cat that hated all women. It would cough up fur balls whenever it heard Celine Dion on the radio.

I called it "cat."

I have to disagree with this statement PA. My MIL hates cats, and all three of mine have naturally gravitated towards her, purring and trying to curl up on her lap ....... I get very amused by her discomfort lol

There are no "cats" involved, only a single cat. The other seven were or are fine with men. So I don't buy your theory.

If your theory is that a woman having a cat that hates males has lesbo tendencies, what does your having a cat that hated all woman say about you?

soul2share -> RE: Do cats need to know what sex I am, like a dog does? (3/27/2011 10:26:44 AM)

Boozy is correct in her statement about cats and the folks who dislike them........One of my ex's gmas didn't like cats, and everytime she'd come over, Alex would sit right next to her, or follow her around.  Eventually, Alex ended up sitting in Gma's lap, with Gma petting her and not even realizing she was doing it.

My ex's family all told us that when I got pregnant that we should immediately get rid of the cats, as they believed all the old wives tales about cats and babies.  We refused to, and Mickey turned out to be Vincent's "nanny".  She'd come get us when she knew he was about to wake up, she slept with him, when he'd be on the floor crawling around, Mickey was right there to make sure nothing happened to him.  She'd come and get one of us if he was headed for someplace he shouldn't have been.  My ex's mother was totally shocked when she saw how Mickey interacted w/my son.

Dumb animals, indeed.

But then again, Curry doesnt like male visitors either. He hated a cm date in 2008 as well as my dad in 2009...only (strangely) with Mr. A he didnt dare to show him attitude but when he knows to be the boss he tells men in my flat that they aren't welcomed here...
