The Doors song People Are Strange...I always thought it would sound really good sung by Maurice Chevalier. Try it in your head...sing a bit of it in a heavy French (French-French, not French-Canadian) accent. I'm right aren't I?

Colours...we all see them, but do we see them the same? I've often wondered about this. If I could look at a blue sky through someone else's eyes...would I interpret the colour I saw as blue? Or would it look like some other colour to me?

French. It's a beautiful language (except when I speak it), but the French they speak in Ontario is strange. One day I was at Costco (a big warehouse-style club store) and there was a bird flying around in the store. There was a French Canadian family near me, and the bird fluttered by. One of the daughters pointed and said... "O r'gard le tit birdie, comme il est cute!" It ain't English, it ain't French...its Joual.

I am bilingual (English/French), about 30% of the time I do surveys in French. I've done Internet help desk in French...but when I was in northern Maine...I couldn't understand them at all. The locals called it French...but it wasn't even vaguely related to what I know as French. I think the North American regional varieties of French are almost seperate languages, rather than dialects or accents. Edited to add a clarifying ","
