I am relatively new to the life and enjoy most to all forms of pain immensely, and have a high pain tolerance. I am very curious about whipping, caning, and flogging, especially whipping. The only thing that has held me back until now is the lack of a willing partner, which I think I can fix. I am hoping to gather some suggestions on starting and some do's and don'ts or anything else you could throw in...

Welcome to Collarme. You will have no shortage of willing partners,
especially being that you are new to the lifestyle. Also your newness
on the site will open a flood of emails. My suggestion is that you don't settle
for the first willing partner to come along. Here is a list of some events/munches in your area.
You may benefit greatly by attending these to discuss with others,
and perhaps even watch live demonstrations.

I agree you should learn about sub frenzy and then how to meet with someone new safely.  1st meeting should be in a very public place, for some reason most subs like Starbucks for this, and limit the time to no more then an hour for it.  1st time to play you truly need to have a friend that you can call several times during it.  Know where you will be and do not go to any other place with him or her.  The friend should know exactly where you will be so a late phone call may well send friends or the police.  I know others will say it isn't necessary but since I have helped several badly abused subs I do think it is.

I supply my phone number and a copy of my driver's license or at least my driver's license number.

Not a lot to do on your end, except to prepare yourself for the ramifications of heavy play, which you seem to have done. Now you just need to find a suitable partner and let them take it from there.

All of the above!!!!!    Find the BDSM community in your area and go to some munches.   Make friends (especially older female subs who have been doing this for a long while) and learn from them instead of jumping in blind.   There are safe and sane ways to do this.

Flogging is wimpy unless you have a particularly nasty one...and that's unusual. Most are that soft leather and just kinda caress.

Canes are the source of contention with most gals I know. They can be used softly as in rhythmic caning (which can be soooooooo relaxing) or just damn brutal instruments, depending on who is using them. I, and I suspect most doms, love em, but girls seem to hate them...which, chortles, may be why we like em so much. Plus they leave the nicest marks.

And whips can seriously fuck someone up. Don't be letting just any knucklehead at you with one.

Good advice on this thread.  Please don't let any twit with a whip near you unless you absolutely know that the person knows how to use it properly.  Just because somebody owns one doesn't mean they should be using it on a human target.

There are plenty of folks in your local BDSM community who can help you out and get you acquainted with various types of floggers and such.  Most folks will have various types in their toy bag and will be happy to talk with you about the differences in the materials that they are made from (including which type of leather, rather than just say leather or suede) for different types of sensations.  They should also be able to tell you something about the falls being different lengths, shapes, and designs will produce different sensations.  I've got a pair of floggers made from bull leather with square falls (12") that are some of the nastiest things that a lot of folks don't want to meet.

Canes vary, too, depending on what the cane is made of and how thick it is in diameter.  I think Kana expressed My thoughts on them pretty well.

Canes are hot. i find the style affects my response. The English designs are reminiscent of school girls. Dressing the part makes it even better. And that stingy little *bleep* just makes me weep. But it's a good kind of hurt.
