Obama has been deserted by Independents. GOP friction or a Tea Party defection is unlikely to save Obama from big losses in 2012. The DNC can't use its lesser of two evils arguement credibly, can't use anti war, can't use change. The only people still buying those lies were brainwashed long ago. Three wars, huge unemployment figures, a massive deficit and no "Decider" to run against; Obama is praying the Tea Party and Sarah Palin are enough to spook the voters into ignoring his staggering record of failure, lies, and hypocrisy. There will be an "anyone but Obama" election in 2012. The Democrats only have their base left and even liberals capable of independent thought (the Matt Damons of the DNC) don't seem enthralled anymore. The lack of credible GOP challengers isn't that daunting. Obama is going to have to run on his record: three wars (Libya will be a war, there is mission creep every day), Guantanamo, "no child left behind", supporting Islamists in Libya, bailouts of banks, bailouts of insurers (AIG), bailouts of automakers, Obamacare's penalties will be revving up before too long, domestic spying etc. Obama has exposed himself as a flip flopper and hypocrite of the highest order. Even if the GOP loses the Tea Party it won't bring Independents back to Obama. Obama will be a one termer, he makes Jimmy Carter look good by comparison.

Isn't it funny how the racists keep insisting that Obama has failed? Do they really think people will not understand that we've avoided a replay of the Great Depression? That Obama successfully created a consumer protection agency that scares the corpoartists so much they are having their Congresscritters spend time trying to attack the head of the agency to undermine the agency? Never mind the huge savings to college loans and all the other little things his administration has got done in 2 years.

If both houses are controlled and the GOP still isn't able to tie up the purse strings then your scenario is all too possible.
