That's "Stewart"
The other spelling was introduced by Mary, to make sure the French got it right -as a nation, they hadn't invented "w's" at that time.

And her holdings were assumed by the Hanovers, at her death, not the Windsors... Windsor being a made-up name anyway, for much the same reasons, in 1917. It was felt that, in the middle of World War 1, having a royal family with the name "House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha", might be just the teeniest bit politically incorrect.

The house of Stuart are the legitimate Royal Family, since they forced James II to abdicate after he was overthrown in the Glorious Revolution.

Therefore, the House of Windsor are nothing more than usurpers.

James II wasnt the last Stuart on the throne. His daughter Mary and her husband William followed. Then after that it was his daughter Anne ( The first monarch of Great Britain ). The act of settlement prevented a Catholic from taking the throne and George I was Queen Annes closest Protestant relative. The English Bill of Rights came about due to James disdain for the law.

As for usurpers, the chain of English Kings and Queens is full of them.

Threepence was equal to three old Pennys
A Farthing was a quarter of a Penny, still in use when Lucy and I were kids [8D]
2s 6d is two old shillings ( 12 pence epr shilling so 24 old pence ) Making 30 pence in total.
2s 6d was also half a crown, hence my link to Rons "Price of a usurper" quote

Obvious if your over 45 and from the UK innit.

I would really like to forget all the Die Hard movies.

Besides, Bruce Willis starting balding so now he has decided to shave his head.
