slvemike4u -> GOP adopts the Mellom Doctrine (4/1/2011 7:26:38 AM)

From today's Op-ed page comes this piece written by Paul Krugman, link is for the full article

"Two weeks ago, Republican staff at the Congressional Joint Economic Committee released a report, “Spend Less, Owe Less, Grow the Economy,” that argued that slashing government spending and employment in the face of a deeply depressed economy would actually create jobs. In part, they invoked the aid of the confidence fairy; more on that in a minute. But the leading argument was pure Mellon."

Blatant attempt at a hijack! [:D]

But I did enjoy the link thanks. The logic of the GOP policy is persuasive - cutting jobs creates jobs, lower wages creates wealth, increasing austerity leads to prosperity. Why didn't someone think of this before?

Oh they did you tell me ..... 80 years ago. Wasn't that about the time Brave New World and Animal Farm were written and doublespeak entered the vernacular?

Krugman's last paragraph pretty much sums up not only this issue but politics in America today:

So that’s the state of policy debate in the world’s greatest nation: one party has embraced 80-year-old economic fallacies, while the other has lost the will to fight. And American families will pay the price.

And the saddest part is many who are being hurt by those policies get conned into believing they will somehow benefit by those taking advantage of them.

I know we just recently had a long and virulent Maher thread...but that is a persistent beef of his, that the Democratic party, and President Obama specifically, just  don't have the balls for the fight. That every time ,over every issue, the Dems offer a "compromise"whereas the Republicans say sure....here's the compromise..."do it our way!".
And that is the funny thing about Obama's poll numbers, the right takes great solace in what is perceived to be soft numbers.Seemingly never realizing that a great number on the left are more than a little upset due to a lack of fight on his part.A great many folks that voted for him(myself included) are more than a little disappointed at his willingness to "compromise" in this manner. The numbers show this dissatisfaction
Meanwhile to listen to the right one would think he is a socialist who is taking the country too far left....Seems to me that Obama should just accept that the right hates him.....and work harder at pleasing those who voted him in to office.
Just my opinion of course.

I agree with that.

But this is what the Democratic Party has been for some time.

Pussies who would rather compromise than fight for their beliefs.
