Brain -> Conservatives Now Outnumber Liberals in Deep-Blue States (4/1/2011 9:57:30 PM)

It’s because of the least educated or the most unwise people who don’t know any better. This is very unfortunate and a shame they vote against their own interests. Sad.

Conservatives Now Outnumber Liberals in Deep-Blue States

What explains this trend? Some might point to a conservative backlash against Obama’s liberal policies. And while that certainly may be part of it, Richard Florida, an urban theorist writing in The Atlantic, has a different theory. His explanation is economic:

Conservatism, at least at the state level, appears to be growing stronger. Ironically, this trend is most pronounced in America’s least well-off, least educated, most blue collar, most economically hard-hit states. Conservatism, more and more, is the ideology of the economically left behind. The current economic crisis only appears to have deepened conservatism‘s hold on America’s states. This trend stands in sharp contrast to the Great Depression, when America embraced FDR and the New Deal.

What do you think Brain, will Obama take Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Penn, Wisconsin and Minnesotta in 2012? You know, the rust states with 20% unemployment?

Michigan ....... 10.4
Ohio............... 9.2
Indiana........... 8.8
Pennsylvania.... 8.0
Wisconsin........ 7.4
Minnesotta....... 6.7

http://www.bls.gov/web/laus/laumstrk.htm

Where is the 20%?

Oh wait, I found them!

The above are the U3 numbers.

The U6 numbers by states, 20% and over are as follows...

Michigan, 21%
Nevada, 23.6
California, 22.1

So, by these numbers, you got one right, except....

quote:

The official model-based annual averages for 2010 will be released on February 25, 2011.

Alternative measures of labor underutilization by state, 2010 annual averages (percent)

These are the annual numbers for 2010, not for 2011.

Pennsylvania, 14.7
Ohio, 16.9
Indiana, 17.4
Wisconsin, 14.8
Minnesotta, 13.8

http://www.bls.gov/lau/stalt.htm

Wasnt aware California and Nevada were now "rust" states.

Way to go, old geezer!

popeye1250 -> RE: Conservatives Now Outnumber Liberals in Deep-Blue States (4/2/2011 12:01:20 AM)

Oh, Ohio is only 16.9%, sorry, my finger must have hit the "2" instead of the "1".
I'm sure all those states will be down to "4%" by Sept of 2012, right?
But, all Oblunder has to do is give another "speech" and we can easily get those numbers up over "20%" .

tazzygirl -> RE: Conservatives Now Outnumber Liberals in Deep-Blue States (4/2/2011 12:18:06 AM)

LOL... you dont lie very well... nor do you get it. The numbers you posted were for 2010, when unemployment, the U2 numbers, were at its highest. U6 nation wide number has dropped atmost 2%. That not may seem like a big number... but ask those people who are working.

What is your excuse for Michigan being at 21.5% in 2009, 15.1 in 2008, 12.8 in 2007, 12.2 in 2006, 12.0 in 2005, 12.1 in 2004, 12.2 in 2003. Couldnt possibly be that the great state of Michigan may never be below 10%.

Ohio, 17.2 in 2009, 11.4 in 2008, 9.7 2007, 9.7 in 2006, 9.9 2005, 10.6 in 2004, 10.4 in 2003.

Gee, you want 4 % from states who have not seen that level of employment in the last 9 years at least?

popeye1250 -> RE: Conservatives Now Outnumber Liberals in Deep-Blue States (4/2/2011 12:20:14 AM)

Tazzy, answer my question, do you think Oblunder will win those states?

tazzygirl -> RE: Conservatives Now Outnumber Liberals in Deep-Blue States (4/2/2011 12:22:11 AM)

Which ones? The ones you claimed were above 20% or the ones which actually are over 20%

Ok, have a nice conversation with yourself. Over and out.

tazzygirl -> RE: Conservatives Now Outnumber Liberals in Deep-Blue States (4/2/2011 12:30:55 AM)

lol... ask for clarification from you and you run.

But to answer your question in a different manner...

Obama "won" the following states in 2008....

Wyoming, Vermont, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Florida, North Carolina, Washington State, Maryland, Iowa, Delaware, Minnesota, New Jersey, North Dakota, Maine, Virginia,Wisconsin, Indiana, Idaho, New York, Washington D.C., Rhode Island, Michigan, California, Pennsylvania,Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Ohio,Maine, Oregon.

Iowa, North Dakota and Idaho are the states that the Gallup poll indicated are the ones Obama won, but have become more conservative since 2008. None of which are on your list.

That is not what tazzy's post showed, but don't let facts get in the way of your grade school insults. It's what you do best.

Depends on how much he has in the warchest to spend on commercials compared to the other candidates. I mean, if money can get the guy elected based on rhetoric that was a complete 180 from his later actions, anything is possible the second time around.

I do agree that conservatism is the ideology of the left-behind. A great big pity-party for those who are the 'new poor' due to their own (in)actions and lack of personal progress within the world. A pity-party for the stagnant in a fast moving world.

It would likely depend upon whether or not they believe that Obama is responsible for the 20% unemployment which of course...he is not.

LOL, Minnesota has higher than national average employment, the only rust we have here is from producing iron ore for factories to rust up, and I expect they will vote for Obama and against Bachmann and Pawlenty, in protest of idiocies.

rulemylife -> RE: Conservatives Now Outnumber Liberals in Deep-Blue States (4/2/2011 6:54:57 AM)

Am I reading something wrong here or does the map not match the text of the article?

AussieSub75 -> RE: Conservatives Now Outnumber Liberals in Deep-Blue States (4/2/2011 6:59:00 AM)

You're wrong.

mnottertail -> RE: Conservatives Now Outnumber Liberals in Deep-Blue States (4/2/2011 7:03:18 AM)

All said and done, conservatives do not equate to republicans and liberals do not equate to democrats, and neither equates to left and right.

Heres a factiod, 70% of 100% off all polls are pure lies, 80% of 100% of polls are positively wrong, and 90% of 100% of polls are not worth repeating or thinking about longer than the toilet paper you flush in the toilet.

Well then explain it to me.

The article states that Vermont, Oregon, and Rhode Island have become conservative while the map shows them as below average in conservative ideology.

DarkSteven -> RE: Conservatives Now Outnumber Liberals in Deep-Blue States (4/2/2011 8:40:25 AM)

The map shows people who self-identify as conservative, as opposed to liberal or moderate.  However, making assumptions about Obama's popularity based on "conservative" is wrong.  Note that Mississippi, which had the highest percentage of self-identified conservatives, is evenly split on Obama, with 47% approving of him and 46% disapproving of him.

mnottertail -> RE: Conservatives Now Outnumber Liberals in Deep-Blue States (4/2/2011 8:51:55 AM)

I wonder why nobody self identified as a bomb throwing anarchist?  Or wasn't that the choice?

Are you?

A) conservative
B) a bomb throwing anarchist?
C) not gonna give a fuck about this poll and fuck around with your answers? (this choice will be paired with A for simplicity)
