Aneirin -> Server not found ? (4/2/2011 7:19:34 AM)

Exactly what does this mean ?

As we have all had it - probably, but why does it come up so often, and with firefox very often ?

Nothing wrong with my computer, is it my internet provider or bloody firefox again ?

Any or all of them.   You could be choked up from your house to the phone switch, from switch to the ISP, you could be choked up from the ISP to the shipper overseas.............and on and on.

Process of eliimination. Is it one site or the whole net ? A google search for local weather will tell you for sure you're online. If you get that, it probably isn't on your end. Usually.

I've seen some strange shit though, like P2P will connect and so will Paltalk, but not the browser. Sometimes it makes no sense.

I did find something out recently though about these issues. Update IE first if you use Windows. Remove all other browsers, and all IE updates. Then get IE up to at least version 7. Then reinstall all other browsers. Fixed more than one of them doing that. It also seems to work on the dreaded error12007 or whatever it was.

There is no HTTP error code that corresponds with the canonical error message, "Server Not Found".

That said, however, complaints about Firefox reporting this error are all over the web.

It's always worth keeping Opera and Seamonkey for example as back up options.

Send me pictures and an address.....if you're really hot, your server might show up knocking on your door.  ^_^

I have two computers, a PC and a Mac, the PC was used for web surfing and the Mac for more serious stuff, but now I seem to be using the Mac for everything as it gives me less hassle with whatever I do. On the Mac, I have Safari browser and Firefox, the latter from my PC days, it supposedly being the safest browser on the web, but with Firefox I am noticing lately, recent years, it is becoming problematic, so perhaps a change is necessary.

The Mac has the added bonus that less viri attack it, and with my Mac, I have a real time paid for virus scanner in operation whereas the PC was on AVG free, however AVG free performed flawlessly, it is highly recommended, the PC dislike was well, the PC is falling to bits, keys missing off the keyboard, a chunk taken out of the corner and a messed up vista OS that keeps throwing up all sorts of errors like not recognising USB ports from minute to minute.
