looking for reccomendations on a good quality flogger. any info would be greatly appreciated.

What kind of a flogger are you looking for? Do you want leather, suede, or another type of material? If you want leather, what kind of leather do you want? How long do you want the falls to be? Do you want something that is lightweight for your hands or something a bit heavier? How big are your hands? Do you want the flogger to produce sting or thud? How much do you want to spend?

I could name off a bunch of different places that I've bought floggers over the years. Look at JT's Stockroom, Mr S Leather, Achella, etc, etc. All of those places sell very high quality toys.

Any of the three listed above will work as far a purchasing a flogger. I've used all of them before in the past and have been very happy with the products that I bought.

thank you for the response

i was thinking leather and looking for somthing that would sting and leave marks well. price was not a issue. i would rather buy quality once than buy a novelty item.

I am very picky about floggers, mainly b/c I have small hands and somewhat wimpy wrists. I really need to handle the flogger before purchase to make sure it is weighted well and feels good in my hand.

A sub of mine did have an assignment to find me a small stingy leather whip, and arrived with the perfect small yet very ouchy flogger (he is such a good boy). It's one of my favorites b/c I get a lot of bite for my comparatively little strength.

The point being? If at all possible, a flogger should be bought for the individual with their needs in mind. JMO

If you want sting and marks, leather isn't your only option. The ouchiest, stingiest floggers that I make are either rubber or bungee cord. If you do go with leather, know that thinner falls give more sting, while thicker falls give more thud. Likewise, fewer falls will generally produce more sting than many falls.

Here's a pic of a bungee flogger I did for our own VAA. I can guarantee that something like this will both sting like hell and leave marks.

WyldHrt.../// i was thinking of leather mainly for the look smell and feel however i had never seen one like the one you posted made of bungee cord. that does look like a beautiful quality flogger indeed and i can see where it would sting and mark well. thanks for opening my eyes to a new idea :)

I don't intend for this to be a hijack, as my question(s) may be useful to the O.P.

I own an inexpensive, lightweight leather flogger. Based on the weight and size, it feels like a good fit for me. It doesn't seem to have any rough or jagged edges, although the leather is somewhat stiff. So what's the difference? I know some floggers can be very expensive; what makes them be of better quality? Is this one likely to fall apart? Is there some safety issue I'm unaware of?

For me, what makes a good flogger depends on what I want to use it for.

A small lightweight flogger with a few tails is perfect for someone who wants a great deal of sting for minimal wrist action.

A heavy flogger is going to have heavier and longer tails, and more of them. In that case now you have to concern yourself with weight, as it will take a certain amount of wrist strength to wield it for more than a few minutes, and well as quality of workmanship of the flogger overall and its handle. A heavy flogger that is not well made will fall apart fairly quickly.

When it comes to floggers, quality of workmanship varies widely.

You need to ask yourself a question. Does the flogger that you own speak to your soul? Is it an instrument of your inner being? When you and said 'flogger' met for the first time, did you know it should belong to you?

I have spent the last several years compiling My toy bag. Anyone who knows Me knows that there is easily ten grand worth of equipment in there. The ones that mean the most to Me I don't see in value of dollars and cents.

The difference is what a toy does or does not matter to you.

I think I understand what you're saying, LadyPact. I don't feel that "soul connection" with the flogger I mentioned, but I have a feeling it's a good enough one for training purposes. Now if I could just figure out where to attach those training wheels ...

I've made both lightweight and heavy floggers and can tell you that weight isn't an indication of quality. If I do a flogger with a weighted handle and more falls, it is going to be considerably heavier than a plain flogger with an unweighted handle made from the same hide, but the basic technique I use for making either type is largely the same.

Many things that affect the price of a flogger are cosmetic rather that structural. For example, a flogger with a braided or carved wooden handle is usually considerably more expensive than one with a plain handle. If I use fancy tacks instead of plain nails on a handle, it doesn't change how the flogger will work, just its looks and price.

One thing you should always look at is the quality and type of leather, because that is one factor that will affect longevity. If the hide is too thin or stretchy, the flogger will not last as long as one made from thicker hide. If the falls are very stiff (and I mean very stiff), the flogger may have been made from an inappropriate type of leather that will be too brittle to work well or last long.

Another factor to look at is how the falls are attached to the handle. Most of my floggers have the falls as a single piece of leather at the top, meaning that they are part of the handle and the only way to lose a fall is literally to rip it off. Some floggers are made differently, with the falls attached with staples or nails and then covered. How this is done is important when judging quality.

A final thing to check is how the flogger is put together. A flogger held together with glue alone is much more likely to fall apart than one that is both glued and nailed/tacked/screwed/soldered together.

I also have to agree with LP (as I so often do) that how a particular toy feels or 'speaks' to you is important. All the fancy expensive leather and hand turned handles in the world aren't worth the price if the toy just doesn't get your happy on.

She is absolutely right. It's both the materials and the craftsmanship. You could say the same thing about anything that is made. You can create a table out of plywood and glue, but that's a piece of crap. It's not the same as one made of oak that the design is hand carved into the wood and it's built to be sturdy to last for decades.

Another good point. Know your craftsman. Listen to what they say about their work. When you look at them, there's just something that you can tell.

It either feels right when you pick it up or it doesn't.
