The plumber was a dipshit. Actually, most people are identical to the plumber whether it be private or public employee. I know people that work for the government that spend every dime they make, because they perceive their job as a law of nature. I also know people that own businesses that spend every single penny, and constantly live on the edge. I also know people that work for corps, and have a healthy household income buying crap from rent one (weekly payment store for crap like tv's).
The moral of the story 80% plus of this country lives like the plumber, IMO, that's why this country is in the shape it is.
But I make more than most I know, that think I'm worse off than they are, because I don't spend my checking account down, and buy things I can't afford. It's kind of funny. I have a used car, paid for, I'm paying off a mortgage in 6 years, that most would take 20-30 to pay off and use the cash for flash. While others making less are driving a new car, living in a neighborhood they can't afford, all on the gamble that nothing will ever go wrong in the 20-30 years it will take them to actually own anything.
The plumber was an idiot, all that will happen is he will go broke and the frugal plumber down the block will buy his equipment at auction for 20% of purchase price, and take his business, regardless of what is happening in wisconsin over a couple decades timeline. The frugal non-debt laden person has a compounding advantage over time. So, Kevin the plumber has 10% credit card, 5 percent mortgage, 6 percent line of credit. average debt interest of 6ish percent with a total debt load equaling one years gross income has a horrific disadvantage over the course of a decade, or rather he has to work 20ish days more every single year just to pay the interest on that snowmobile.
That's huge. but it doesn't matter if you own a business, are an employee, or work for the government, you are dumb and deserve to lose everything, living a life structured around being permanently in debt.
As far as the cop goes, well, he's not playing the same game, his opinion doesn't matter. 50K plus is more than the average worker in wisconsin makes for the level of education it requires to be a cop, he takes little risk compared to the business owner, near guaranteed employment, early retirement. Most business owners deal with the threat of going completely broke constantly when starting, they actually pay taxes, work 7 days a week, cops drive around eating doughnuts and handing out traffic tickets 90% of the time, at least around here. I've called the cops once in my life, and they acted sooooooo put out to actually have to do something for a citizen once in my 35 years of life. So fuck the cops, they don't deserve 50K, early retirement. Fuck em. That's why a large percentage of people don't give a shit about a cops sob story, because they are assholes for the most part. Power obsessed lazy fat assholes. Of course 1 out 10 is probably a good cop, but when encountering a cop it is best to assume the stereotype will apply.
You had me til the last paragraph. I agree, one should be as debt free as possible.
The cop in the story was all for his friend's business "success". If Kevin were truly a success, he wouldn't have been so bad in debt, now would he? After all the fun he had he got to piss and moan about those "haves". Those "haves" who worked nights and weekends, broke up several fights from of the same family members time and again.
Who do you think will put the fire in your house out, catch the guy who stole your car, or teach your kids? The "have" government workers.
What a crock of crap ending to an otherwise reasonable post.
