Care to respond to the meat of the article, Ken, rather than sticking to your comfortable talking points?

What are your thoughts, for example, on a tethered balloon, with a miles long hose, spewing contaminants into the upper atmosphere to deflect sunlight?

Who's that? Got any specific examples?

Does a company shipping it off to Indonesia as an animal feed ingredient work, Panda? Think about the costs of that, and the number of animals right here domestically to feed. They keep trying, but the critters seem to think it tastes like dried pond scum. We get more flakes, than we do oil, so it's a stumbling block to commercial production.

Somebody is going to get rich with a cost effective answer.

Wow!

That was amazing, even for you.

Can you possibly explain to me how this is a bad thing?

How what is a bad thing, RML? There is a problem that needs to be solved before commercial production become practical.

So, you are against a company that has come up with a clean energy source?

Still not paying much attention, are you, RML? I am most certainly not opposed to these algae based biofuels. I think it is an awesome idea. I am also straightforward about the challenges of pursuing new technology. I even pointed a strong incentive for someone to find a good solution (of course, that was a profit based motivator, and even socialists much more able to focus than you, have trouble with that concept).

Gee Richie, my mistake.

I guess I just took that from the title of your thread and your opening remarks.

I'm so silly sometimes.  [sm=candles.gif]

Look at Algore, he made what, $100 million off *his* scam and now he's off enjoying his 100 ft yacht and mansion on the Calif. coast. The guy went to "Divinity school", he knows all about "sheering the flock."

Document it or stop spreading nonsense.

Perhaps if you read the article, or my posts to the specific subtopic, you'd be able to participate in a more constructive manner?

Mistakes are things we learn from. When people fail to learn from mistakes, the incidents are better referred to as "typical, dumbass, bullshit."

As long as the meterologists cannot say for certain what will happen from day to day regards the weather, I have a lot of trouble believing in climate models, bearing in mind the base line used.

We do not know the history of this world, sure, we can get an idea from such sciences as dendrochronology and core samples taken in various parts of the world, but what does that show, anything other than the fact that the climate changes as it does in accordance with the nature of the planet.

As to man's influence sure I agree our need/greed for resources has perhaps created problems that cannot be corrected in our species lifespan, but who said our lifespan will prevail, we weren't here from year dot, maybe we won't be here at the full stop.

But the success of humanity is that we have learned to adapt to our enviroment, so if the world warms or cools, we will adapt and that is that.

Actually you should look into Paleoclimatology, there is a history of earth's climate in ice cores from Greenland and Antarctica, not to mention ocean corals, tree rings and other evidence from other sources.

The problem with an artificially accelerated climate change is that it impacts species that cannot adapt to the changing climate, like coral which have been dieing do to warmer ocean water. There is also a rise in CO2 in the ocean that is having an impact on it.

The human race, with its tendency to pollute has done a lot of harm, it will take generations to correct it.

The reason, it is clear to me, is that AGW/climate change is not a science to many of its strongest proponent but a religion, with its roots in simple hatred of mankind.

Let me understand this, those who are trying to save the environment hate mankind?

Do tell us more.

And maybe you can also explain what Kurzweil has to do with climate change.

No, but I do believe most of your threads are referred to that way.

Let me ask though, how do you expect anyone to respond in a constructive manner when you post a thread that is basically a hit piece?

Meeting of the Mad Scientists?

And yes I did read the article, and what struck me was how balanced it was while you cherry-picked sentences out of it to promote your viewpoint.

Weather and climate are not the same thing.  Weather is state of the atmosphere -- temperature, humidity, precipitation, clouds, wind, atmospheric pressure -- at a particular time and place.  Because the atmosphere is a chaotic system operating over relatively short durations, it is intrinsically unpredictable beyond relatively constricted time horizons.  Climate describes patterns of atmospheric behavior over long periods of time, e.g., decades and centuries.

"Blanketing deserts with a reflective material
Launching giant mirrors into space orbit
fertilizing the ocean with iron to grow CO2-eating plankton
brightening ocean clouds with sea-salt particles to reflect the sun
feeding sulfates into the atmosphere via a kilometers-long (miles-long) hose attached to a tethered balloon "

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA, you people are all going to DIE !

Come on Man, tell me this came from Saturday night live or some shit.

T^T

SNL hasn't been this funny in decades, Term.

Termyn8or -> RE: Meeting of the Mad Scientists (4/3/2011 6:43:29 PM)

I remember Ediie Murphy's debut. They had him behind a door with bars like he was in jail and the wonderful postulation of prose was undoubtedly titled "Kill My Landlord".

I would almost give my left nut for a tape of that.

Hmmmm, maybe in a place like this I shouldn't say that. Ahhh, fukit, my left nut is the smaller one anyway.

T^T

Document what, Junior?
His purchases of that house last year and the yacht were all over the news.
You could probably find a thread or two in here about it.

Meeting of the Mad Scientists?

Has a nice ring, I think, and what else do we call it when scientists admit the temptation to play God?.

Let's see. I grabbed the descriptive lead, compiled a list of methods under discussion at the conference, and provided a quote I liked, below the link to the article. I suppose you think commercials for movies should give away the ending, too?

Ya gotta love the knee jerk leftists reactions on this one, great thread Rich! [:D]

TheHeretic -> RE: Meeting of the Mad Scientists (4/3/2011 6:58:39 PM)

Yes, Popeye, but Gore has put out a press release since then, claiming he gave all that money away to a climate change alliance charity. He may be a slimy, charlatan whore, but he's their slimy charlatan whore, and his press release is gospel to them.
