My comment is geared entirely to the "dinner an hour after you get home". Does the s type know when you will get home or do you arrive at a different time every night? Because dishes require timing and if you arrive at a different time daily then one night things will be overdone and the next, not yet done when you want it. Either that or you're limited to a diet of grilled steaks and chops that can be done quickly.

Fair enough question, Des. When clip was cooking regularly, it was pretty standard practice for Me to be coming in the door at a quarter before the hour any time that I was on days. If it fluctuated at all, I would get in fifteen minutes later. That was part of why I didn't want it ready as soon as I walked in, just in case I would be running that bit late. When I was on the night part of the rotation, dinner was set around 5:30 because I'd eat before going in. The rotating schedule was enough to drive a person nuts at times, but clip was provided with a copy so he knew well in advance what days I worked, which nights I worked, and what time I had off.
