I start this thread due to a total disrespect for Politics and Off Topic. I hope someone brings in some serious stupidity as well, because that is what it is.
Normally movies, sometimes music, whatever, is just foro entertainment. But sometimes it touches you. Then you are "touched". :-)
In the public interest I figured I would start this off. Well maybe not so public, but public enough. In this interest I now preface the intent.
People may not see things as I do but maybe we can talk about that. There is art that stirs the sould and then, for axample filthy porn. Sometimes I prefer the filthy porn but that is not the point right now. There have been over the years, TV shows, movies, songs and whatever that unexpectedly actually make people think. I know they try to avoid that now but it wasn't always so.
For example I've found some old Outer Limis' and Twilight zone quite provocative when it comes to thought. Even words to a song come up once in a while. Now I deal with life differently than most people, so what I hear and see that fits my life does not matter. And ad hoc here, forget that as well. What has brought up the bigger issues for you ?
It can be a song. Grand funk. Too many people sittin dead on thei ass, ain't got no class people this time must pass. If you know the rest of the words, you know it means something, as does Stop Lookin Back, and a few others. But then those vids. It doesn't have to be two hours long to kick your brain into gear. In an episode of The Outer Limits, 1995 version one is entitled The Human Factor. Let me share my synopsis.
There is war, and things are not looking good. At a remote stationm on one of Jupiter's moons lives a team of scientists etyc., hell bent on bringing peace. they had tried it before and it didn't work out. There is an android, with "artificial" intelligence and you will know why I parentesised that shortly. They are going to teraform this moon and turn it into a colony for humans.
The android calculates, and is embellished with some sort of morality embedded in his engrams or whatevwer and it comes to the conclusion that the human rac should not be allowed to expand out into the vastness of space. He reckons this and decides to destroy the facility. This will kill all the humans there, which is logically acceptble to "him". Nobody can do shit it seems, but the humans, though previously enemies work together and put that android outr of business. The station is saved.
Well, with everyone else dead the commander gets a communice' from Erth. War broke out in full force nd they layed waste to thwe planet. The commander had just spoken to his Wife and kid. The President and a few other dignitaries are on their wy to the outpost, figuringh that the teraforming wi8ll go wel, and they can start all over.
The commander remembers what the android said, that humans should not be allowed to expand into the galaxy. We are too destructive. After the Pres and the other suits fled this planet, headed for the only place they thoughht they could go, the commander decides to sabotage the station, just blow it up. The suitys are on the way in a ship, and they have pretty much destyroyed the fucking world, along with his family.
He tells one of the suits that he can assure the President that when they get here, it will be just like home. The irony of those words is astounding to me. It will be just like home, the way they fucking left it. While they's thinking the gold coast or Florida, they will arrive and find a barren, uninhabitable wasteland.
The other half dozen people on the station are dead. The suits are on the way and it is clear that they won't be able to survive there and there is nowhere to go back to. He has effectively ended the human race.
Is all you watch this shit for is the ray guns and the cool ships and shit ? Or does the plot matter ? Don't fucking walk in here and give a link to a review by some fatass who couldn't get a real job if his life depended on it. Give me YOUR review, in your own words. Sometimes it's not the plot, but what YOU get out of it.
And you know what ? In "The Human Factor", I would've made the same decision. That character did pretty much kill himself as well. But he made sure that our disease did not spread. And that, maybe a higher expression of morality than any of us are capable. Imagine it, think about it. It is in your power to make sure that no human being lives anywhere again, period.
What touched YOU ? What made YOU think ? Tell us in your own words, typo the MF on out here, let the world see. Really. Anything almost. Words to a song, maybe even a commercial. Whatever. But do it in your own words. No quote, no cite. Write.
Maybe I 'm just a fucking criminal. Back when I had cable I gladly gave them their eleven bucks a month. All the channels, all the PPVs and playboy channel 24/7. I had this neat little box that beat SSAVI encryption, and I modified it to beat SSAVI2, which fucked with the sound. Damn, took me two hours to figure that out and fifteen whole minutes to figure out how to bet that, but lickily I was using a component tuner, if not it can't be done because to fix the sound the need the baseband signal. Actually it may have taken me three hours, I wasn't watching the clock. It's just me, I don't want anything they want me to have and I want everything they don't want me to have.
And I had it all, including the magawatt sound systen and a five foot Advent TV. Mine was the best one in the city at least, it was PERFECT. A perfect picture and a sound system well beyond it's time.
But see all this trickery and effects, it overloaded me. Yes, when I played Days Of Thunder the cars went around the speakers like they did in the movie. When I watched ST TNG you wouldn't fucking believe it. But al this horsetrickery fell out of favor with me. Fuckit, I sold the TV to some "brothers" o the east side, and the rest of the system fell apart over the years. If I had it today, it is still better than the junk tghey sell now, but that is not the point.
Now, I would rather watch this stuff in mono rather than stereo, and some things actually in black and white. I have no nedd for this trickdickery. What is the plot, what is the story here ?
While I am not into the soap opera of life, and would hope to find more of substance, pertaining to much larger issues (like the end of the wordl n shit) anything that strikes you as profound, it sticks in your mind, it ACTUALLY MEANT SOMETHING to you, what is it ?
That's what I am after. What you got ?
