I wouldn't actually call this random stupidity but there are some words/terms that have always bothered me and I want to know if I'm alone in my feelings. Yes I understand it may just be a matter of opinion. That is why I am asking yours.

Your poll is very confusing.

First entry for yes.  The word "fetish".  People like to use it for anything that turns them on and technically, that isn't the definition of the word.

Another quick mention for the word "boi".  Anybody who is biologically male using the term just makes Me shake My head.

I'm sorry fox, why is it confusing. And Pact I agree with you about the word fetish.

I am a word slut. I am sapiosexual and the D types who get my attention are always the well spoken, intelligent ones.
I value langage and communication.
Words and lables are to some people, so I don't step on toes about it.
Words and self-titles reveal a whole lot to me about the writer.
I find labels self-fulfilling, and this can have desired and\or unanticipated consequences.
The only label I really have any emotion about is the one Master uses to refer to me.

Petite ,you sound like a horny linguist and that is a lovely thing.

TheRaptorJesus -> RE: Are there words or terms within the bdsm community that you feel are annoying or used incorrectly? (4/6/2011 11:27:41 AM)

A ton of them.

FORCED-anything is ridiculous.

Slave is pretty dumb.

Gender-fluid (though not BDSM related, seen on these networks more than anywhere else).

Forced is the one that annoys me more than anything. Or when people ask for "rape". You people disgust me.

Id rather see her as a cunning linguist.

I had a feeling you were going to say that.

It's good to know that Y Chromosome makes me predictable.

I'm not sure if it is the y Chromosome, or the giant cock as an avatar.

The work "switch".

It means:

1. A person who changes orientation (noun).
2. A changing of orientation (verb).
3. A whippy implement.
4. When a multiple changes personalities.

girlygurl -> RE: Are there words or terms within the bdsm community that you feel are annoying or used incorrectly? (4/6/2011 6:14:31 PM)

The only thing that comes to mind at the moment is "subbie" I don't like it.

I agree with LP, a biological male using the term boi confuses me.

I suppose everyone is going to have a label or a term they don't like and/or don't get. I just go with the flow. Some may not like the labels I have and I know I don't like or get some that others have.

Free your mind.

This.

Quick question for DS... What word do you prefer for someone who does not identify as one side of the slash 24/7, if not switch?

I used to identify as submissive/slave to DB, but that excluded my dominant side. I'm not always in a dominant mode, because there are one or two people who I would bottom to if I had the chance. There are also times, when I had my sub gal with me at the club, and I was there with DB. It was like a totem pole... DB on top, me below him/above my girl, and my girl under me (in a hierarchial sense).

So... what term do you think describes the person who traditionally identifies as the word "switch?"

Just for conversation's sake, I happen to agree with DRH on the term 'switch'.  If anything, I think that term isn't used enough where it's appropriate.

Some of the most prominent dominants here don’t know what the fuck a submissive is.

Many people confuse the physiological traits of a submissive personality with the qualities or parameters of a submissive’s role in a D/s relationship.  Then they prolifically post foolish and incorrect replies based on those misconceptions which mislead newcomers.

Imagine “Dominants” with thousands of posts to their credit and they don’t even know what a submissive is in the BDSM lifestyle.  It cracks me up.

Physiological or psychological?
